I've Got $5 In My Kiva Account

If Greensboro were to establish a Kiva microloan program as I most recently suggested in Incentives In Greensboro: Part 39: One Man's Dream, myself and thousands of other Greensboro citizens could be contributing tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars to the economic development of our entire city at zero cost to the City of Greensboro. People from beyond Greensboro could contribute too.

The minimum Kiva investment is $25. As you are repaid with interest the money is returned to your account. You then have the choice of reinvesting your money or, once your account has again reached $25 or more, you can withdraw all or part of your money. I started with $25 several years ago when I had a job and money, and have reinvested it several times. And the default rate is far lower than conventional banks.

An example of Kiva investment in the USA is the Valley Economic Development Center, Inc. "the largest non-profit business development group in the Greater Los Angeles area, offering micro-loans up to $50,000, small business loans up to $700,000, consulting services, and training to small and medium-sized businesses throughout California."

Why does the City of Greensboro not act? Why do Greensboro's "leaders" and economic development "gurus" not care enough to do something to help the poor start businesses of their own and restore the overall economy of the City of Greensboro? Why must Greensboro always be last?
