A Coincidence Drops Out Of School

Maybe it is a coincidence that the student dropout rate in Guilford County schools has suddenly increased. just a blip on the radar:

"Guilford County schools also saw an uptick in dropouts, according to the report.

In the 2014-2015 school year, 529 students dropped out of Guilford County Schools, according to the report.

The school district had 467 drop outs the year before."

Or perhaps these numbers presented by Roch Smith jr in his article, Huuuuuge! And not in a good way, might lead one to think the increase in drop outs might not be a coincidence at all.

"Black students accounted for 72 percent of the total suspensions but comprised just 41 percent of the total GCS student population that academic year."

No, Roch didn't say it but there is at least some evidence to support the notion that Black students are being driven out of the Guilford County Schools and that this increase is indicative of a much larger and ever looming problem involving violence against minority students by school resource officers.

But then I haven't set foot in a school in decades except to play Santa Claus and go to community meetings....
