Why Did Zack Pick That Parking Lot?

When former Greensboro City Councilman and current Downtown Greensboro Inc. President Zack Matheny was found passed out in his car in the parking lot of the abandoned Kroger Harris Teeter Grocery store on the corner of Cone Blvd and North Church St several months ago it was assumed by many that Zack had gone there after leaving the party to purchase crack cocaine or do business with one of the prostitutes who frequent the area.

Now admittedly we don't know why Zack went there. And to be honest the quality of drugs sold on the corner are not the drugs of choice for people like Zack who have 6 figure jobs and live in neighborhoods like New Irving Park.

But interestingly enough, while all the media accounts told us what is no longer open for business at the location where Zack was arrested and charged with DWI, none of them bothered to mention what is open for business at that very same location.

Crossroads Treatment Center (shown on the map below) is listed as a methadone treatment center.



Could it be Zack was going to seek help for his drug addiction problems in the middle of the night when admissions are closed? You know, drunk, scared and confused? Or was Zack hoping to score high quality pharmaceuticals from someone who works inside?

We'll probably never know.
