2/23/14; On John Lomax, DGI, Billy Jones, Betty Cone, Grassroots, Eric Robert and Roy Carroll's Al Leonard

"The Secret Plan To Dismantle Downtown Greensboro Inc

I have been on a Non Profit board for two months now,
for a grand total of two meetings...

Eric Robert

Seems Lomax and friends were happy as flies on turds when they were able to manipulate the board's decisions and direct large chucks of that taxpayer funding their own way but now that they can no longer use DGI to scam the taxpayers,..

I am on probation for a year, until I can demonstrate that I can behave,
and then... maybe, I may get reappointed if I am a good boy...

Eric Robert

...over 50% of DGI's city funding comes from taxes collected outside the Business Improvement District.

It well could be that Lomax has a lot of support for his cause.

Despite the fact that Lomax has long scammed the taxpayers to fund his own development and construction businesses, many downtown business owners see no benefit to being forced to pay the BID tax and residents outside of downtown have long opposed being taxed to subsidize a handful of downtown business owners who just happen to be very well connected politically.

I was asked to not take to my "little blog" any and all little DGI dysfunction.

I was OK with that as I thought that I would not have to,
since i could face the other board members as an equal,
ask questions and hopefully shape civic, democratic decisions to benefit all.

Obviously, Al Leonard of the Carroll companies did not get the memo and was not having it !!!

...Why are we subjected to 1876 parliamentary rules unknown to most commoners?

Eric Robert

If Lomax really is planning such a move you can expect it to gain traction very quickly as the brain dead DGI board wallows in centuries old parliamentary procedure tactics unable to think on their feet."

Billy Jones

Why is an executive committee of only 5 members
authorized to decide on the allocation of large sums of monies to old board and current board members
bypassing the approval of the larger 20 + member board?

...if someone does not like your "insolence" in your questioning of their behavior,
they will invoke some obscure motion only known to the seasoned non-profit professional deceivers,
and instantly shut you up...

...half the current board (including me) still does not know what the fuck happened,
or even how they voted.

Something is very wrong at DGI.

Sounds like Eric was told not to blog/bad mouth/observe prior restraint about DGI matters,
as long as he could have a say at meetings.

Sounds like Eric tried to debate allocations of DGI monies to Betty Cone and Grassroots,
decided by the highly connected executive committee behind closed doors
and Al Leonard and those who knew how to play who objected to an open debate
used procedural methods to violate the agreement with Eric
with a substitute motion to end the debate.

I hear immediately after, Al walked out of the meeting before its conclusion.

The problems with DGI haven't been fixed.

DGI is providing Greensboro taxpayer monies to a for profit company
not paying Greensboro privilege taxes.

DGI is funding Grassroots productions without input from all of DGI's board members.

Same thing as before, only different.

Legalized theft, some would say.

Crony capitalism is a term describing an economy in which success in business depends on close relationships between business people and government officials. It may be exhibited by favoritism in the distribution of legal permits, government grants, special tax breaks, or other forms of dirigisme.

Crony capitalism is believed to arise when political cronyism spills over into the business world; self-serving friendships and family ties between businessmen and the government influence the economy and society to the extent that it corrupts public-serving economic and political ideals.

I believe DGI's board has a cesspool of cronies who profit and/or allocate taxpayer money to their friends, Eric objected with a second from Simonne McClinton, and the former shut the latter up like preserves in a mason jar.
