Nancy Vaughn on Ethics Pledge

Update My apologies to Councilwoman Vaughan for spelling her name wrong and for going to bed last night before updating this post. On her Facebook page, Nancy replies, " I planned on bringing up in December."

I think that should be worth a whole bunch of likes! Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to my usual tourturing and tyranicide of City Council.

Begin original post:

"On March 17, this City Council passed a resolution in support of expanding the State Government Ethics Act to local elected officials. It read, in part, that “local government officials should be subject to the same high standards of conduct and reporting requirements that apply to State government officials.”

…I am troubled that sitting council members who voted for this resolution are giving lip service to accountability and transparency but have not followed through (with the exception of Trudy Wade, who posted a financial disclosure report).

…This is just one small step the council can take to help restore trust and confidence. I pledge to support a policy that will make public records more accessible and to institute guidelines to foster transparency and accountability.

So here's an idea Nancy, introduce a proposal before Council to adopt the exact same standards and penalties as state government officials and ask that the City Council make it Greensboro Law. Any council person who votes against it will be forever known by all the voters as dirty and on the take. You see, it really is just that simple.

You see, local governments have the right to enact their own laws as long as their laws do not exceed or supersede State law and by matching State law and applying it to the Greensboro City Council you have neither exceeded nor superseded State law.

Come on, Girl, show us what you're made of. You, Marikay, Yvonne, Dianne, Nancy Hoffman and Trudy before she leaves, have the chance to return Greensboro to the people and break the back of TREBIC and the influence of dirty money on Greensboro politics. Or you can all slink away and be forever known as the dirty girls who couldn't beat the boys even with a majority.

Or you can plan to not be reelected next year. On that you have my word and the word of  over 27,000 people who are following this blog today and who will be 200,000 by November of 2013. Count on it.
