Are Greensboro Tax Dollars Promoting Private Business?

The short answer: Yes, indeed they are.

I will explain.

Here we have a web page from the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance. a taxpayer supported "non profit" arm of the taxpayer supported "non profit" Greensboro Partnership. Among the highlighted property listings are McConnell Center, one of Greensboro's many empty industrial parks. I'm told that Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins  was somehow involved in McConnell Center but have as yet been unable to verify.

So having established that tax dollars are being used to support privately owned businesses here in Greensboro I can only ask, why are we not using taxpayer dollars to support all of Greensboro's privately owned businesses?

And why so many different names for the same "non profit?" Why all the shadow companies?

Greensboro Economic Development Alliance Pads The Numbers

The Greensboro Economic Development Alliance, one of the merged, taxpayer supported, Greensboro Partnership companies that has been skimming management fees as part of the Action Greensboro, DGI scam recently released figures claiming that Cone Health Care is Guilford County's largest employer.

Problem is: according to the North Carolina Employment Security Commission the Guilford County Public Schools are the county's largest employer and the City of Greensboro backs up the info provided by the ESC.

As a matter of fact: pretty much everything Dan Lynch, the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance and the rest of the Greensboro Partnership have to say is wrong but like I always say, don't take my word for it, click on the links and read it for yourself.

Made possible with a tip from one of the members of Real Progress For Greensboro where our members work for free while your taxes go to pat the Greensboro Partnership companies to rip you off.

Has Not There Been Enough Farmland Lost To Development?

That's the question asked by Dane S. Hill of Pleasant Garden in her LTE in this morning's News & Record. My thinking: with worldwide food shortages predicted in just a few short years a smart society would keep some farm land out of the hands of developers as it's very hard to grow crops on asphalt.

Besides, what fool in his or her right mind would give away hundreds of acres of prime land to a $Billion Dollar corporation? To quote Buggs Bunny, "What a bunch of maroons."

And don't forget, this isn't just the doing of the Guilford County Commissioners. Oh no, the Greensboro City Council shares the blame as well. You see, the plan was hatched by the City funded Greensboro Partnership which answers to Mayor Robbie Perkins and the Greensboro City Council for as long as the Council continues to fund it with your tax dollars.

Leave it to Robme and you'll soon be hungry. I wonder if the soup kitchens in Irving Park would have better soup or just more of it? Are you aware there are currently 74 homes for sale in North Carolina's most desirable neighborhood? In 2007 the average listing time in Old Irving Park was 24 hours, now many of those same homes are in foreclosure. Robme and his developer cronies are getting desperate and will steal anything that isn't nailed down including the nails.

And Zack, you might as well go get drunk again for all the good this is going to do you.

Jobs Come Local And No One Is To Blame

While Dan Lynch, president of the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance, managed to get himself quoted in the News & Record article, Lenovo to make products close to customers, he wasn't able to take credit for the 115 new manufacturing jobs said to be coming to Guilford County. Fact is, I doubt Dan Lynch can honestly claim having brought a single job to Guilford County but that's another story.

So why does the City of Greensboro pay the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance, which according to the NC Secretary of State, does not exist and according to Federal Tax Records, does not exist. (Sorry, I can't link to IRS records that don't exist.) I mean, if they don't exist and they don't bring us more jobs then why pay them?

Oh wait, I get it! What was I thinking? We pay the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance hundreds of thousands of Dollars a year so Dan Lynch will have a job! How silly of me.

I would link you to the website for the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance but when I tried to go there I got the following message: "The link to this site is disabled because it might download malicious software that can harm your computer." Roch mentioned another prominent local non profit which depends on City funding up to the same dirty tricks a few days ago. I can't help but wonder what else they're up to.

Well, one thing we know for certain is that when Mayor Lies-a-lot Perkins tries to take credit for creating jobs we'll all know what he's referring to.

Confused Yet? You're About To Be

Which Guilford County Prison Farm are we talking about? For those who might not know, Guilford County isn't only the only county in the state with a county prison farm-- we've got two. Only, one of them is currently closed. And it appears that the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance (a non entity) is trying to give one or both of them away.

In today's News & Record they promise 400 new jobs at the expense of 740 acres of prime farming and hunting lands, 120,000 gallons of water a day, 80,000 gallons for sewage a day and 700 to 800 tractor-trailers a day running into the quiet little towns of Gibsonville and Elon.

Would someone please remind me why we needed to give Roy Carroll $Millions of Dollars in water and sewer services when the County was sitting on 740 empty acres almost next freaking door? No, the two projects aren't related as the Town of Gibsonville will supply water and sewer to the mystery manufacturer brought to us by the mystery Greensboro Economic Development Alliance in a mysterious location that borders Alamance County and the Burlington and Elon City Limits. Maybe they should rename themselves the Burlington Economic Development Alliance.

Poor Roy, now he has to compete with free. I guess the Greensboro City Council will just have to buy his land from him after the taxpayers finish paying to install water and sewer. You know, so Roy doesn't face a loss. With a tidy profit, of course. After all, Roy did "improve" the property.

Judging from those water and sewer figures I can only speculate the company being lured there is a chemical company. Companies often want their land purchases kept secret to keep rural land owners from jacking up prices but if we're giving away the land then why keep the name of the company a secret unless it's someone who might not be considered a good neighbor to the folks in Gibsonville, Elon and Burlington?

Look, I was born in Gibsonville in a house with a back yard that bordered the Prison Farm's chain link fense. I have friends and family living next door to that prison farm today. I have lots of family and friends in Gibsonville, Elon, Burlington and Alamance County that I don't usually drag into Greensboro political issues. And while I wish all of them prosperity and wellness I believe this is one Greensboro issue the Alamance County part of the Jones clan just might want to know about.

And just so you know, while we might not have the money they have, in Guilford County alone we outnumber the Cones and several other well known families combined. And that's not counting the inlaws. I'm calling up the family!
