A Recent E-Mail Concerning Kotis Properties

I still get some interesting e-mails from time to time. I'll not name the source but it is someone I trust and should be easy to verify:

"I had been meaning to mention . . . Two weeks ago the city started repaving a section of Battleground. Well, everyone has to start somewhere and they started in front of the Red Cinema on the side going toward downtown and paved to the office building before getting to the water plant. Once that was done, they all left - that apparently was all they were going to do . . . just that one side of the street, all lanes, from one end of Kotis' property at the Cinema to the other end at the office bldg. Something funny about this.

By the way, I am back and forth on this part of Battleground daily, many times more than once per day. Nothing was wrong with the street and there was no water waork, just paving."

Political favors or just by circumstance? You tell me. Are there no broken roads in Greensboro that needed paving first?

Greensboro's danger is the connected politicians, elites, and media pundits who enable, run and pilfer our city

Greensboro's moral edifice is crumbling.  North Carolina and Greensboro's leadership and sold-out press have made a joke of our community and state.  They perverted and rotted our economy from within.  Our elected leaders have lined their donors' pockets in exchange for campaign donations and signs on commercial properties and billboards.

These 'leaders' and their financial backers have ignored the travails of the average income citizen.  We want good paying jobs back, as Roy Carroll, Marty Kotis and the Koury's among others at the top of our local food chain effectively opposed living wages and basic worker rights via purchased state legislators and crooked, crony backed legislation.  Think about how much more money Marty and friends can make by more easily firing newly pregnant restaurant servers and hotel house keepers.  Just on insurance premiums, these fine folks living off the rest of us who hire and pay low wages to those, who if they say anything about it are immediately fired without any governmental intervention.  Many used to call it slavery.  Now it's the same thing, without the stigma as it has become something of a national pastime for the 1%.

The punditocracy of the News and Record, the Triad Business Journal and the Rhino Times on multiple sides of the spectrum are in on the theft of taxpayer monies for paying clients through ever larger local handouts financed by unsustainable municiple debt.  Nancy Vaughan, Robbie Perkins, Zack Matheny, Sam Simpson, Jim Melvin, Nancy Hoffmann, Mike Barber, Tony Wilkins, John Lomax, etc..., representing both sides of the same political parties, poisoned the discourse and halted transparency they so hailed with platitudes when running for office.

Both sides, if there really are any, insisted on not addressing the root causes of local economic dissatisfaction and lack of good paying jobs for our relatively poorly educated workforce.  Andrew Brod, one of the worst offenders of all, was there to placate the masses with his bullshit healthcare economic orthodoxies swallowed whole by those in the academic, publishing, and media ecospheres, making his friends in the medical and legal professions even more than they otherwise would have.

Greensboro's major property owners have an authoritarian mentality when considering those who fall below the median income level and are distressed and insecure, while most of the country club crowd are prosperous but vexed as most don't even know what is actually happening behind the curtains while they feed on a rotting corpse of an economy.

Our oligarchs have incrementally yet comprehensively seized most local economic and political power for themselves via Greensboro's City Council and Guilford County's Commissioners. They have perverted our media and even such basics of the democratic process as voting and accountability in elections, which are rigged for the in crowd by drawing lines determining voting outcomes.  These are the same folks who collaborated to engineer a revolution of economic decline for the average working person in Greensboro by outsourcing our manufacturing jobs, which has now reached unbearable proportions as layoffs spike and the media doesn't let their readers understand what is actually happening.

The stock market may look like it's doing well, and unemployment may theoretically or statistically be low with the help of bullshit artist mathematicians like those touting bogus estimates of economic impact, but people can’t afford housing and food, they can’t pay back student loans and other debts.

Many lives in East Greensboro are full of such misery that they don't even pay attention to who the villains actually are.  See a picture of Skip Alston or Jim Kee for context.

There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between Nancy Vaughan, Robbie Perkins, William Barber, John Blust, Tony Wilkins, Justin Outling, Phil Berger etc...

The game for the elites needs to end.  Our puppets and their masters are in a cataclysmic state of panic, they don’t know whether to look right or left, they have no idea what to do as they have no idea how to put Humpty Dumpty together again after they lined their pockets with the proceeds of the fall.

We, the citizens, don’t need to get our hands dirty with implementing checks and balances,  Jim Westmoreland and staff at the City do it on our behalf and expense.  With the help of City Finance Director Rick Lusk and Budget Director Larry Davis, Greensboro just borrowed about $55 million and now our esteemed City Council is talking about a bond referendum when there was none for all just borrowed.

Now we are told by the press that 'fees' and 'utilities' are going to rise but there won't be a property tax increase.  But the money just borrowed will be paid for by the poorest among us as the biggest property owners like Koury make money from more heads on beds without having to pay for it.  The fees for basic services are being swapped out for capital improvements for our overlords profits.

Our leaders do not speak the truth but mumbo-jumbo.  They are in the pockets of those who actually rule and plunder the unknowing in our community.  Both need to be cut off at the knees if we are going to get some job growth.  They have crippled us with their greed.

Time to fight back.

Marty Kotis re-upping his campaign bribe funded $359,883.33 gift from his City Council cronies at Tuesday's meeting

On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, Greensboro's City Council is going to re-approve a bogus 'job creation' package for Marty Kotis, Greensboro City Council's top, or second place biggest contributor behind Roy Carroll, $44,905 per job, for 8 jobs;

This is what Tony Wilkins stands for

This is what Justin Outling stands for

Marty Kotis is a parasite upon our community, and is supported by Tony Wilkins, Nancy Vaughan, Goldie Wells, Justin Outling, Mike Barber, Marikay Abuzuaiter, Nancy Hoffmann, Yvonne Johnson and Sharon Hightower

Money starts flowing in Greensboro City Council races

DISTRICT 4

*Nancy Hoffmann: $47,337

Gary Kenton: $1,830

Hoffmann, a downtown property owner, snagged $1,000 donations from several local developers, including Kotis, Frank Auman, Dawn Chaney and John Lomax.

What are the chances Justin Outling isn't playing ball for Brooks, Pierce's other clients if he got 16 Brooks, Pierce employees to give to his campaign so far?, and some Marty Kotis

2017, Mid Yr, Outling Justin, Justin Outling, PDF;

How much taxpayer money has Justin Outling voted for Marty Kotis,
since Justin was appointed to City Council, just like Tony Wilkins was,
and now just like Goldie Wells was?

Yes, I am saying appointing Council members right before elections is crooked politics

I am also saying accepting an appointment to City Council and then running is crooked,
which makes Justin, Tony, and now Goldie, crooked and cheating elected leaders
who perverted our community with cronyism and political favors,
along with all the other Council members who voted to let an appointee run
without a commitment that they wouldn't

If 'we' are dumb enough to believe
with the help of Marty Kotis, Roy Carroll, and Koury Corporation
are paying to tell us to believe
which is what the bible thumping morons on the local far right
are are saying they believe, in direct contradiction to basic rationality,
there is seriously something very wrong with our local society
and our local political and economic establishment are in on it.

Marty Kotis appears to be saying he doesn't want any gays anywhere near his properties
or eating at his restaurants because they are gay or trans
by not asking for his money back from those in North Carolina's legislature
who have lost thousands of jobs for our state

I wonder is all the City Council members in Greensboro
are going to give Marty the money he purchased them with back
because he favors discriminatory legislation

Marty only extracts rent from most of the restaurants on his properties, which the News and Record's Allen Johnson doesn't seem to understand.  But Allen doesn't understand basic economics, so that's what we have for an 'opinion leader'.

More like a cheerleader of the uneducated variety whom everyone likes to look at anyway.

Doug Clark and Allen Johnson didn't understand or foresee what happened last time the economy tanked, and their jobs are to not know or report as we decline once again.

They, along with the Triad Business Journal, are just cheerleaders for the 1%.

Why would John Lomax give Nancy Hoffmann $1,000?

http://candidatereports.myguilford.com/files/2021_HOFFMANN%20NANCYMID2.PDF

How much taxpayer monies has Nancy Hoffmann voted for John Lomax?

You may never find out, as those at Greensboro's News and Record
and the Rhino Times are so full of cowardice and greed,
they won't tell you, as they are the recipients or beneficiaries of said contributions,
but they won't admit, as they are in on the rigged election game,
as Roy Carroll and Warren Buffet profit from the soft fascism...

They call it 'free market democracy' now

I Never Got A Penny From Marty Kotis

From time to time anonymous cowards identifying themselves only as Fred Fred and by other names leave comments on various posts on this blog accusing me, Billy Jones, of having accepted money from Marty Kotis.

Before my falling out with Mr Kotis I did meet with him several times to discuss business.

On one such occasion I agreed to build a StreetPlane for Mr Kotis to use in the promotion of his restaurant, Burger Warfare.

A StreetPlane is a moped/motorized bicycle that looks like an airplane. Previously I had built one that looked like a World War I era biplane.

Mr Kotis wanted a StreetPlane that resembled a Russian MIG Fighter jet.

Mr Kotis offered me an advance to help pay for the cost of materials.

I refused the advance preferring instead to risk only my own money as I saw the project as quite challenging and questioned my ability to build a product I thought would be suitable for Mr Kotis.

Months passed and several attempts at building a MIG inspired StreetPlane were tried but I was never happy with my own work. If I wasn't happy with my work then I wasn't about to show it to anyone else-- especially a paying customer.

The biggest problem was in scaling down the MIG to only a few feet wide. By the time you do so the cockpit is so small only a hamster or mouse could fit inside. And if you make the cockpit big enough for a human then the wings must be so short it doesn't look anything at all like an airplane. Remember: this thing has to fit in one lane on the average city street.

There were other problems, personal problems mostly, things that were going on in my life at the time that made things harder, but the fact remains I never took any money from Marty Kotis, Kotis Properties, Kotis Restaurants or anyone representing Kotis.

I accept the fact that I am responsible for not being able to build what I thought I could build. I failed. But I never took a penny from Marty Kotis or any of his companies.

And if anyone tells you I did, ask them, no demand they produce the cancelled checks or copies of Kotis Company accounting vouchers that show that I received any funds from Marty Kotis.

Better yet, ask Marty Kotis himself, get it in print, or get a recording and make it public. Because if Marty Kotis or anyone working for Marty Kotis is proven to be spreading the rumor that I ever got a penny from Marty Kotis or Kotis Properties, I'll be very happy to drag him into court and force him to produce the documents to prove it.

And Fred Fred, I'll not be broke then.

Who Owns Greensboro Mayor Nancy Wilkins?

No the title wasn't a typo. Read on.

Have you ever wondered who really calls the shots here in Greensboro, who really pulls the strings of the puppets we elect to the Greensboro City Council? Well thanks to some very observant readers of EzGreensboro.com who passed this information along to me we now know that Mayor Nancy Barakat Vaughan is owned by none other then Greensboro City Councilman Tony Wilkins.

Or does Mayor Vaughan own Tony Wilkins?

How do we know this?

Take a look at the website ElectNancyVaughan.com

Now look at who controls Nancy's website. According to Whois Lookup Results the administrator is none other than Tony Wilkins.

Either way, Tony Wilkins and Nancy Vaughan are tied together. You can't bullshit your way out of this one Tony.

Now this begs the questions:

1. How did Tony Wilkins, who is rumored to be running against Mayor Vaughan, manage to become the administrator of Mayor Vaughan's campaign website which has been in existence since 2009?

2. Has Tony Wilkins been working with Mayor Vaughan since 2009? The website was first created in 2009?

3. Does this explain how Councilman Wilkins manages to make a living despite apparently being unemployed? Hey, we all know he can't be selling enough furniture out of a mini storage warehouse to pay the bills.

4. If we were to ask the Mayor and Council members to make public their tax returns, would they do so?

5. How many other members of City Council have apparent conflicts of interest involving their business arrangements with Councilman Wilkins?

6. Who actually owns ElectNancyVaughan.com? Is it Tony Wilkins? Marty Kotis? Roy Carroll? Donald Vaughan? Mike Barber? Nancy Hoffman? Who? And why would he or she keep the actual ownership of an election website private unless there is in-fact a conflict of interest?

7. Have laws been broken?

8. Will there be an investigation?

9. Will the State Board of Elections step in to investigate?

10. Will Donald Vaughan magically manage to make it all go away.

Share with your friends, I'm sure they will be curious just as our other readers were. And rest assured, as we learn more we'll tell you.

More Problems For Tanger Performing Arts Center?

In a post titled Tanger Center for the Performing Arts site work grinds to a halt, someone called Gate City Pundit writes:

"A fee dispute has brought years of planning and engineering work on the proposed Tanger Center for the Performing Arts to a standstill.

City of Greensboro officials notified council members Friday that negotiations for a guaranteed maximum price for site preparation have broken down with Skanska Rentenbach, the construction firm selected in 2014 to serve as the project’s construction manager at risk.

Greensboro’s City Council voted in late April to split work on the delayed project into two phases. Phase I work was approved by council in April and was to include site preparation for a fee not to exceed $2.5 million.

Greensboro Coliseum Director Matt Brown notified council on Friday that the contract negotiations had broken off because Skanska Rentenbach is unwilling to remove two sets of fees from their Phase I proposal."

Oh, and like myself, this guy provided actual links to documents.

My predictions: After being sold at a huge loss to taxpayers, that big empty lot in the middle of Downtown Greensboro is going to make a great location for that trendy grocery store on the first floor of a mixed use building just as soon as Kotis and Carroll put their personal differences aside, team up together and decide to become long awaited saviors of Downtown Greensboro.

With incentives, of course.

Perhaps they can even talk Steven Tanger into putting one of his outlet malls on one floor.

I look forward to seeing more from Gate City Pundit and added the site to the aggregator to the left bar here at EzGreensboro.com

Roch Smith, Jr. deletes Kotis Pay to Play Story; "Kotis Showers Council With Campaign Cash" and tonight's real estate giveaway

Editor's Note: Abner Doon was incorrect in his post below, Roch did not delete his post. The original post by Roch Smith jr, Kotis showers council with campaign cash remains online. Click on the preceding link to read it. Our apologies to Roch and our readers for that mistake. Please disregard the following:

http://greensboro101.com/2016/01/kotis-showers-council-with-camp

"...The News & Record... fails to report the campaign contributions made to the body that is about to consider the discounted sale and, two days before the vote, it runs a Sunday front page profile singing Kotis’ praises complete with accolades from elected officials with no mention of the large campaign contributions those officials have received from Kotis.

It fails to report the building’s tax value.

...Last year alone, Kotis has contributed to every city council member but Mike Barber.

Here are the campaign contributions made by Kotis to city council members in 2015 through October 22. These amounts do not include contributions that may have been made in the days before the November elections through the end of the year—reports for that period are due at the end of this month.

Markikay Abuzuaiter: $2,113.95

Jamal Fox: $2,227.71

Sharon Hightower: $250

Nancy Hoffman: $1,361.76

Yvonne Johnson: $500

Justin Outling: $500

Nancy Vaughan, Mayor: $1,000

Tony Wilkins: $1,457.51

...The News & Record is not trying to inform public opinion, it is trying to manipulate it..."

Politically Greensboro is thoroughly corrupted and economically too deeply controlled by the likes of Roy Carroll and Marty Kotis to extricate itself. Morally we are without direction, rudderless in dangerous seas and heading for the rocks with Nancy Vaughan, Mike Barber and Zack Matheny at the helm, working as pawns of the country club inside crowds advocated for by Susan Ladd's garbage, reality-less advocacy pieces published outside the confines of the opinion pages.

http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2016/01/is-marty-kotis-buying-city-of.html

Now it's the same thing, without the stigma as it has become something of a national pastime for the 1%.

there is seriously something very wrong with our local society
and our local political and economic establishment are in on it.

Revenge of the Downtown Mural Nazis

From Zack's Drug Dealer by Fec.

Are these charges true? I didn't make them and although I often share the same sources as does Fec, I've not been privy to this information thus far and don't know where he got it from. You decide. But remember what Ogi Overman wrote in April of 2016:

"After Kennedy had made the scale drawing of her mural, had it transferred onto a transparency to be projected onto a wall and had blocked out several weeks to do the mural, she found out the sponsors of the mural project insisted the muralists be local residents.

But Kennedy, 31, was not one to take no for an answer.

“I’d already fallen in love with Greensboro by then,” she said. “I’ve been all over the country and never have I seen such warm and caring people. It’s just unbelievable the way the people around here took me in.”

Kim Kennedy financed her own mural project in Downtown Greensboro without the help of the City funded and Kotis run Downtown Mural Project, paying for it through a Kickstarter campaign on a building that had not been selected by the Downtown Mural Project.

Nor had the buildings owned by Eric Robert, who paid for the murals on his buildings, been selected to receive murals by the Downtown Mural Project.

But are Fec's claims to be believed? Often, far more times than he is wrong, he turns out to be right. As a matter of fact: his record far excels that of the local News & Fishwrap.

So what's my relationship to Fec? We admire each other and can't stand each other at the same time. In other words, it's complicated and we've learned to like it that way.

WILLIAM BAKER JONES v. THE CITY OF GREENSBORO, NANCY VAUGHAN and JIM WESTMORELAND

1. Pursuant to Rules 3, 7 and 8 of the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure, complaining of the defendants, Plaintiff alleges and says; This is an action pursuant to the North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132 of the General Statutes which seeks to compel the City of Greensboro to disclose public records under North Carolina Law.

...2.  Plaintiff William Baker Jones is the proprietor of EZGreensboro News and Record, an investigative local news and opinion outlet covering North Carolina, Guilford County and The City of Greensboro at EZGreensboro.com...

3.  In the course of gathering information about the policies and actions of Greensboro's government, Plaintiff and his staff regularly make use of and rely on North Carolina Public Records Law to gain access to government documents, records and information owned by the public.  Compliance with Public Records Laws on the part of the defendants and other public officials is critical to the Plaintiffs' work advocating for the best interests of our community, county and state.

...We have been thwarted in our aim to provide readers with accurate, timely and thorough information and comment concerning Defendant’s decisions, actions and policies.

Plaintiff's alternative online news outlet received over 242,630 page views between January 1, 2016 and July 31, 2016, which equates to 34,661 per month or about 1,155 per day at EZGreensboro.com.  Plaintiff's best guesstimate of actual readers, considering 8,087 page hits per week, is probably somewhere between 2,000 and 4,000 readers every seven days.  Considering 7,157 Greensboro residents voted in October 6, 2015's City Council primary, if there are only 1,500 local EZGreensboro News and Record readers per week, EZGreensboro.com appears to be in a position to reach and inform somewhere in the 20% range of the total 2015 primary voters within the City.

...10.  Since October 19, 2015, Mayor Vaughan and Manager Westmoreland, sometimes in league with former Greensboro Assistant City Manager Mary Vigue and former Greensboro Communications Director Donnie Turlington, violated Public Records Law repeatedly on multiples of instances in response to public information requests for the benefit of former City Assistant Manager Mary Vigue and former City of Greensboro Communications Director Donnie Turlingon, among others.

11.  These violations include, but are not limited to:

a.  failing or refusing to furnish requesters with copies of requested public records "as promptly as possible" on multiples of requests;

b.  failing or refusing to permit the inspection and examination of public records at reasonable times and under reasonable supervision;

c.  denying or concealing the existence of public records on multiples of items.

12.  The defendants' behaviors suggest, and therefore Plaintiff believes and alleges, that some or all of the violations described above are consequences of concerted policies and practices adopted and followed by the defendants for the purpose of avoiding or circumventing the Public Records Law and discouraging or intimidating public records requesters.

13.  These policies and practices include, but are not limited to:

...14.  PIRT #5180, submitted by EZGreensboro staff as directed by Plaintiff on October 19, 2015 stated “please provide all communications and documentation between city councilman Tony Wilkins and anyone else for the last 90 days.  Please look at both Mr. Wilkins' private and public email addresses”, has not been fulfilled.

Plaintiff has also requested the following from the City;

a.  Triad City Beat’s PIRT #5309, "Civil Emergency" by Eric Ginsburg, which has not been fulfilled since 12/4/2015.

b.  Downtown property owner Eric Robert's PIRT #5418, "dgi", which  has not been fulfilled since 1/24/2016.

c.  Yes Weekly’ PIRT #5754, "Zack Matheny" by Jeff Sykes, which has not been fulfilled since 5/18/2016.

d.  Jeff Sykes’ PIRT #5619, "Cascade Saloon", which has not been fulfilled since 4/5/2016.

e.  Plaintiff's PIRT #5782, "Marty Kotis", which has not been fulfilled since 5/27/2016.

f.  PIRT #5181, submitted by EZGreensboro staff as directed by Plaintiff on October 19, 2015 stated “please provide all communications between Zack Matheny and anyone at the city including city council members private email addresses for the last 90 days”, which has not been fulfilled.

g.  PIRT #5226, submitted by EZGreensboro staff as directed by Plaintiff on November 2, 2015 stated “Please provide any documents and/or communications between anyone in the City's executive office area and anyone from Say Yes to Education for the last 120 days”, which totaled 1,108 emails according to the City of Greensboro, which has not been fulfilled.

15.  To Plaintiff's knowledge, Plaintiff's review of Say Yes to Education's publicly available IRS form 990's indicates the 'non-profit's' investments are located in "CENTRAL AMERICA  AND THE CARIBBEAN", and invested in Say Yes to Education founder George Weiss' Weiss Multi-Strategy fund, from which Say Yes Guilford has been promised $15 million.  Plaintiff's review of Weiss' publicly available asset returns for Weiss' Multi-Strategy fund found investment returns which didn’t correspond to returns found within Yes to Education's non-profit IRS filings.  Plaintiff recently filed complaint #16SEC093 with North Carolina Secretary of State's Securities Division concerning Say Yes Guilford and Say Yes to Education.

16.  On October 26, 2015, Triad Business Journal's Katie Arcieri wrote "After a career with the city of Greensboro that began in 2006, Mary Vigue was recently tapped as the executive director of the local chapter of Say Yes to Education..."

17.  To Plaintiff's knowledge, Say Yes to Education and Greensboro City Manager Jim Westmoreland, who along with Nancy Vaughan and City Council, coordinated low cost publicly funded office space for Say Yes Guilford, whose staff includes former City Assistant Manager Mary Vigue and former City of Greensboro Communications Director Donnie Turlingon, who have declined to provide EZGreensboro News and Record with 2014's Say Yes to Education's 990 tax return after being asked for the document in writing on October, 20, 2015 and again on July 19, 2016.  Say Yes Guilford was also asked for the 2014 990 and its conflict of interest policy and ethics code on October 20, 2015, which has not been provided with Westmoreland and Vaughan's knowledge.

18.  On Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11:12 AM, Plaintiff received an email from City of Greensboro Public Records Administrator Katherine Carter, stating "Dear Mr. Jones, Thank you for your public records request.  Per your request, I have made a note in our system to send you a copy of the response to PIRT 5180, 5181, 5226... upon their completion. I will be in touch with you once these requests have been finished", which have not been concluded in a reasonable amount of time, on top of unreasonable terms beforehand on multiples of requests.

19.  To Plaintiff's knowledge, part time City of Greensboro Public Records Administrator Katherine Carter was Say Yes Guilford's Director of Communications Donnie Turlington's former employee directly before and/or after Turlington was City of Greensboro's Communications and Marketing Director in a similar time frame as former City of Greensboro Assistant Manager Mary Vigue was identified as a member of the Say Yes to Education Planning Group for Greensboro before resigning her City post to become Say Yes Guilford's Executive Director for Say Yes to Education.

...these instances disclose patterns and practices of delay, obfuscation, non-responsiveness, foot-dragging and stonewalling on the part of Vaughan, Westmoreland, Vigue and Turlington concerning former employees Vigue and Turlington and a select few City Council campaign contributors who are now personally profiting from their former and current positions which effectively defeats and defies the public policy of transparent and open government underlying Public Records Law.

21.  Based on the patterns and practices described above, Plaintiff believes and alleges the defendants' concerted and repeated violations of the Public Records Law constitute willful and contumacious failures by the defendants to carry out the mandatory and prescribed duties of their respective...

WHEREFORE, the plaintiffs respectfully pray that the court:

23.  Set the matter down for an immediate hearing pursuant to G.S. § 132-9(a);

24.  Enter an order in the nature of a writ of mandamus to inferior government officials ordering the government officials to properly fulfill their official duties or correct an abuse of discretion requiring the defendants and all persons acting at their direction or in concert with them to comply with North Carolina Public Records Law, including G.S. § 132-6(a), (See, e.g. Cheney v. United States Dist. Court For D.C. (03-475) 542 U.S. 367 (2004) 334 F.3d 1096.);

25.  Enter an order pursuant to G.S. § 132-9(a) compelling the defendants to make available any and all public records requested by Plaintiff and others that are determined by the court to be within the City's custody or control, and that have not been previously made available in compliance with G.S. § 132-6;

26.  Enter an order declaring that certain policies and practices adopted and followed by the defendants are in violation of the Public Records Law;

Plaintiff further prays the court provide him with such further and additional relief as the court shall deem to be just, proper and authorized by law, and that the costs of this action be taxed against defendants Westmoreland and Vaughan.

If I Were Mayor Of Greensboro: Part 30

What's more important, the man or the message he brings. Jesus, Mohamed, Moses,  Gautama Buddha and the leaders of all the other great religions have left us in the physical sense, but the messages they brought with them live on.

I think the answer is plain, the message is more important than the man.

And while it is true that the message I'm bringing you in If I Were Mayor of Greensboro pales in comparison to the messages those great men gave you thousands of years ago I am bringing you the message that if taken seriously, will make Greensboro, North Carolina the city the rest of the world hopes to become.

But it can't be put in 30 second commercials. It requires you do your part and learn the truth.

The following short film demonstrates the way Greensboro's status-quo have been fixing Greensboro for decades.

I don't know about you but I'm getting pretty tired of this kind of love for our city.

Something that has bothered me for a long time is the fact that City of Greensboro employees are, from time to time, forced to lie to cover up for the mistakes and crimes of their bosses.

Hell, I know I'm an asshole, reactive, hard to get along with and even abusive at times but never will any employee of the City of Greensboro be forced to lie to cover my ass or the asses of anyone working under me.

People who do their jobs make mistakes. We yell, we scream, we get over it and go back to work. We don't fire productive people for simple mistakes and we don't lie to cover them up.

When I am elected Mayor of Greensboro our employees will no longer have to fear losing their jobs for telling the truth. On that you have my word.

In case you are wondering, the State of North Carolina requires that candidates designate a recipient for any left over or excess funds collected by a political campaign. Most candidates simply roll their funding over from one election to the next and never pay anything to anyone, always figuring out excuses to spend every dime. State Senator Donald Vaughan donated his excess campaign funds to Mayor Nancy Vaughan's campaign for mayor as part of a dark money trail, but when this election is over, win or lose, I will donate all my excess funds to the Interactive Resource Center which works year 'round to help the homeless and others in need.

You see, my campaign is about helping Greensboro's poor and working class. And seriously folks, the roughly $22,500 a year the Mayor of Greensboro is paid is about as much as I ever made working. Having lived on so little for so long there's simply not much I need nor want for myself.

If you watched the short film above you understand you can't fix something by simply cutting it apart. You must also know how to put it back together again so that the wounds made by the surgery can heal. And often the cure is seemingly harder than the disease.

Greensboro and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is currently spending over $65 Million Dollars of taxpayers' money to build a downtown performing arts center. Now allow me to ask you a question: If you lived in a place where every road for 100 miles in every direction was a gravel road would you buy a $300,000 Ferrari?

I think you all know the answer to that-- our current leaders bought a $300,000 Ferrari to drive round on gravel roads and will ultimately find themselves stuck in a ditch with their dream car beat all to pieces.

Some more of my ideas:

* A regional stock exchange headquartered in Greensboro. Why didn't Jim "Bobblehead" Melvin think of that? And being I suggested it in March of 2015, why haven't Greensboro's bought and paid for economic development "gurus" latched on to the idea?

* In 2013, a Mr Steve Niu of Triangle Accounting approached the City of Greensboro on behalf of Mr Hua Cheng Zhu of Super Granger Group, wanting a $50,000 grant from the City to begin shipping Greensboro's leaves to Japan. Basically the $50,000 was to cover the cost of the pellet machine that would be needed to reduce the volume of the leaves so that he could actually squeeze 25 tons of leaves into each container.

I suggested the City of Greensboro do it themselves. Pellets made from leaves can be used for compost, mulch, fuel and in some countries, fish and animal feed.

Starting such an enterprise would have been the perfect excuse for Marty Kotis to open a container yard on that 20 acre heavy industrial zoned site he owns between the North Carolina Railroad and East Wendover Avenue (US70) just a quarter mile west of Mount Hope Church Road. The NCRR has no Greensboro location and the Port of North Carolina inland facility located in Greensboro is connected to the railroad tracks leading to Tidewater, Virginia, 2 hours farther away than the North Carolina ports.

I suggested to Marty he open a small rail facility there buy Marty seems to prefer spending his time out drinking with Mayor Vaughan, and generating PR materials to seduce the media into making us believe a few more Midtown restaurants and bars will turn our city around while making most of his money building fast food restaurants for others, rather than building things Greensboro actually needs. Yes, I do still have the e-mails between us.

By the way, Marty, when I was a kid I used to fish those ponds and play on the farms out there next to Meadowlane Circle and the NCRR. My cousins lived out there. The pond was full of crappie and we used to catch snakes and lizards in the fields and woods.

Greensboro could then spin off the operation by selling stock on that local stock exchange I mentioned. Would the business leave someday? Not as long as Greensboro still has leaves.

And Councilman Wilkins, part of the profits could be used to offset that $Million Dollars a year the City spends picking up leaves-- a figure that is only going to go up. You might have thought of that yourself if you weren't spending all your time sitting around Marty's restaurants getting drunk and stuffing your face with tacos.

Greensboro could start a lot of businesses that way and we wouldn't be competing with the private sector. Instead we'd be investing in the private sector in ways that pay returns. And Greensboro shoppers would buy the products these Greensboro businesses make because instead of wasting millions of dollars a year having our PR department try to advertise and brand this hollow shell of a city our PR department would start spending their every waking moment getting Greensboro's residents to buy Made in Greensboro. Even if we have to send them door to door hawking products.

You see, as the dates on the old blog posts show, I didn't just dream this stuff up yesterday, I'm years, and in some cases, decades ahead of anyone else they will put up against me.
Recently, Joe Wood of  the  Greensboro Community Resources Board and Guilford County Planning Board, previous Aureus Ltd, the Greensboro Redevelopment Commission, and the Guilford County Board of Commissioners wrote of me:

Name calling, accusations without any evidence... Mr Wood has a problem. Mr Wood is a very powerful man here in Greensboro with lots of power over the lives of thousands of people. But Mr Joe Woods is unable to accept the fact that the Greensboro he has spent his life building is a failed city. One only needs read Billy's Big List of Documented Reasons to know Greensboro is a failed city.

So Mr Joe Wood, rather than accept the fact that his life's work, as successful as it might seem in terms of personal property and money in his own bank accounts, has woefully failed Greensboro's working classes.

And so rather than criticizing the message, Mr Joe Wood criticizes the man. Why? Because Joe Wood wants the poor and working classes to stay down. Because if we are right then everything Joe Wood has ever done was wrong just like all the others who stand in our way.

Thank you Mr Wood, we've been waiting for someone of your "status" to make this mistake. Do you want to talk trash or do you want to talk about the issues? We can ruin a former County Commissioner as fast as anyone.

Come back for If I Were Mayor Of Greensboro: Part 31 and keep your place at Billy Jones for Mayor of Greensboro.

Jamal Fox And Sharon Hightower Are Lying About The Animal Shelter

And I've Challenged Them To Prove Me Wrong

Over the course of the weekend I asked some of the County Commissioners the following questions concerning the property Marty Kotis is attempting to buy-- the same property where Greensboro City Councilwoman Sharon Hightower and Councilman Jamal Fox have been expressing opposition to a proposed East Greensboro animal shelter:

“The answer is no,” Greensboro City Councilmember Jamal Fox said of a recent proposal by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners to build the county’s new animal shelter at 3307 Burlington Road in east Greensboro.

“No, we don’t want it over there,” Fox added.  “I object to everything about it.”

The Rhino article I linked to mentions Hightower as well:

“I don’t support it and I will not support it,” an animated Hightower said this week.  “I’m sick and tired of people trying to come dump every negative thing on our community.  I’m pissed off and, if you want, you can put that in the paper.”

Hightower said she felt as though the majority of the Greensboro City Council would refuse to go along with putting the animal shelter on that spot.  She said the City Council had been working for a long time to bring positive changes to the area, and they had been working hard to lure beneficial businesses back to east Greensboro – so, she said, she didn’t believe they would support such an egregious step backward."

So what did I ask our County Commissioners?

"Who else has bid on that property besides Kotis?

When and where was the property advertised for sale?

Were the County Commissioners advised before Kotis first attempted to buy the property last year?"

Our County Commissions, not knowing the answers, forwarded my questions to the current Guilford County Property Manager, Robert McNiece who wrote:

"The property has not been advertised. The only offer is an unsolicited proposal."

So apparently Marty Kotis thinks he can just buy any municipal property he wants to buy even if it's not for sale. And with nobody bidding against him.

As to Councilmembers Fox and Hightower: On Friday I challenged them in a Facebook thread at Greater Greensboro Politics to tell me who objects to the animal shelter besides themselves who have both benifited greatly from Marty Kotis campaign contributions:

It's Monday, I'm still waiting on replies from Fox and Hightower. But just to make sure I eventually get a response from someone I submitted the following public information request to the City of Greensboro on Friday as well.

"Please provide me with all communications to the Mayor and City Council Members voicing opposition to Guilford County's efforts to build a new animal shelter on county owned property in East Greensboro.

Thank you
-Billy Jones"

We'll find out where the objections are coming from and/or prove Fox and Hightower to be the bought and paid for liars I believe them to be.

And finally, in my conversations with these county commissioners which were forwarded to John Hammer. Jeffrey Sykes, Alan Johnson and others in local media I pointed out that the last time Mr Kotis and I spoke with one another the conversation was about that particular piece of property.

In that conversation Kotis relieved to me that his intentions were to build a shopping center there in 10-20 years, not anytime in the near future. As I pointed out to Mr Kotis in our angry conversation my East Greensboro neighborhood will starve to death before 10 years and his was no plan to solve our food desert issues.

In my final e-mail to the County Commissioners, Hammer, Sykes and Johnson, I suggested they ask Kotis about his timeline for construction. I also recommend the Greensboro City Council and citizens of Greensboro do the same and that a requirement for quick development be placed on any purchase of municipal properties.

And finally, may I remind you that 40 years ago, Marty's father purchased a property 3 miles east of the proposed animal shelter site at the intersection of East Wendover @ the Interstate Bypass and two years ago the City of Greensboro gave Marty Kotis taxpayer dollars to defray the cost of developing a shopping center there and to date there remains nothing there and not one shovel of dirt moved.

Marty Kotis isn't investing in East Greensboro-- Marty Kotis is investing in a portfolio for Kotis Properties buying up cheap land where he can find it and using the power of political graft to avoid competition.

Prove me wrong-- I dare them.

Update: Monday May 23, 2016, 1:20 PM. Got the following reply from the City of Greensboro:

"Dear Mr. Jones,

Thank you for your public records request (PIRT 5761) in which you asked for “all communications to the Mayor and City Council Members voicing opposition to Guilford County's efforts to build a new animal shelter on county owned property in East Greensboro.”

Please provide the time frame that you would like us to use for your email search.

Sincerely,

Katherine Carter, Public Records Administrator

My reply to Ms Carter:
Do a 60 day time frame ending on Friday May 20, 2016 and I'll be very happy.
Thanks
-Billy"

Let's see what this brings, shall we?

Update 2: Sunday, June 6, 2016. I'm still waiting having gotten no response from Council members Jamal Fox, Sharon Hightower or the City of Greensboro.  Guess it's really hard to forward communications that never existed in the first place.

Update 3
: June 15, 2016: Still no word. From May 23 until June 15, almost a month, this has remained one of the most well read posts here at EzGreensboro.com and still neither Jamal Fox, Sharon Hightower, Mayor Vaughan nor any other member of the Greensboro City Council has produced communications showing objections to placing the new and bigger Guilford County Animal Shelter and the jobs that come with it in East Greensboro.

I promise you, if you elect me Mayor of Greensboro I will continue to call these liars out publicly and will do so in front of the television cameras. I'm not scared, are they?

Update 4: July 6 2015: May 19 to July 6 and still no reply from Jamal Fox, Sharon Melvin Hightower or a reply to my public information request #5761: http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/index.aspx?page=3765

Is anyone still willing to make the claim that Fox and Hightower have the best interest of East Greensboro in heart? Share this post, show me any who still believe in them.

Update 5: July 6 2015 PM. I decided to push the issue today and force a reply and in just a couple of hours I got 9 copies of a single e-mail that I had sent to Mayor Vaughan and the rest of City Council in support of the Animal Shelter. Seems that's all they had and no one was opposed.

Six weeks and one day to receive copies of one e-mail that I sent and already had a copy of.

I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.
