An excerpt from the DGI facade grant requirement:
"Properties owned by non-profit, governmental or religious organizations are ineligible from receiving FIP grants because they are tax exempt and the improvements will not grow the property base..."
The Carolina Theater is a 501 c3 non profit.
I'm going to be very honest. This hurts. I didn't want to make this public. I'm a fan of Keith Holiday who manages the Carolina Theater and don't believe Keith is complicit in any wrong doing. I carried van load after van load of flowers to Keith's home when his daughter died a few years ago and having recently lost my own son have an idea of what Keith suffered. Keith's daddy used to repair my shoes. I watched my very first movie inside the Carolina Theater when I was 5 years old and I want to see the Carolina Theater maintained for future generations. But like the person who sent this information to me, I feared that if it got out that I knew and didn't pass it along I would not be serving my readers, my city or myself.
I think the City of Greensboro would be a lot better off if we simply took the money we give to DGI and transferred it to the Carolina Theater.
