Does Robbie Perkins Have A Bessemer Shopping Center Conflict Of Interest?

Previously: The Problem With Developer Ownership Of The Bessemer Shopping Center

I saw the Fox 8 report that suggested the City of Greensboro might have to tear down the Bessemer Shopping Center and the fact that Mayor Robbie Perkins is pushing for a study to decide if that might be the best decision. Then bells went off in my head as I remembered that Greensboro developer George Carr of Beacon Management Corporation has made an offer to the City of Greensboro to buy the shopping center.

Now admittedly I'm not in favor of selling the shopping center to Mr Carr instead of the RCC but the fact is: if the City of Greensboro is looking out for taxpayers' best interests, paying for the demolition of the Bessemer Shopping Center would be INSANE when Mr Carr is willing to pay the City to buy the shopping center.

You see, it's Skip Alston who is trying to get the City to give him the shopping center, not George Carr.

So why would Robbie Perkins even suggest tearing down the Bessemer Shopping Center?

No, as far as I know that's not Robme's company but that sign is located on the corner of Beacon Street and East Wendover Avenue at the 13 acre site of the old Cooks Department Store and Grocery Store, right next door to Robme's planned Franklin Blvd to Wendover connector and only 3/4 of a mile west of the promised I-85 to Wendover connector that Guilford County promised K-mart Distribution as part of their incentive package. That connector will connect to Wendover at Ward and Penry Roads and it just so happens Robme Perkins' company NAI Piedmont does have several properties listed on Ward Road. Sorry, by the time I got to Ward Road it was too dark to photograph the NAI Piedmont signs but they are there.

So does Mayor Perkins have a conflict of interest? Looks like it to me.
