Greensboro Downtown Community Center

The media isn't reporting an alleged incident involving 700 teenagers in Downtown Greensboro over the weekend apparently because the City of Greensboro doesn't want their dirty laundry aired in public. Seems this goes on most weekends all Summer long. I guess Robbie Perkins and other realtors didn't disclose the actual demographics to prospective buyers before they sold all those expensive Downtown condos and town-homes.

You see, as George Hartsman points out the numbers of children below the poverty level and relatively black within walking distance of downtown Greensboro may just well be very much higher than Greensboro's leaders care to admit. And as the map below points out: there are exactly ZERO community centers available to serve these poor minority children.

That's right, no community centers, no play grounds, no public parks, no basketball courts, none of the amnesties available for free even in many of Greensboro's poorest suburban communities.

So where do those poor African American children go? Why City Center Park of course. And if the City of Greensboro raises one little finger to stop these children the City risks the wrath of the entire NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center and a dozen or more national non profit agencies myself and others will be more than happy to call. You see, Roy Carroll and Robbie Perkins would prefer to force them out. Me, I don't think so.

Perhaps someone should be rethinking the need for that downtown performing arts center and building a few basketball courts instead?
