Deleted Facebook Conversation With Nancy Vaughan

Can someone tell me why GREENSBORO is pledging 20 million to a performing arts center( that no one wants bc it's going to be near the ghetto) when the real need is fixing old dilapidated buildings, creating jobs, or helping build a new animal shelter?!? Nancy Barakat Vaughan, Tony Wilkins can you help answer this question?!? Marty Kotis you wanna weigh in?!

Nancy Barakat Vaughan GPAC is being financed with user fees. The money used for this project cannot be used for dilapidated buildings or an animal shelter. The CVB money used last night can only be used for tourism/entertainment purposes.

Nancy Barakat Vaughan Billy, it's really very simple. CFGG is collecting the donations and securing the entire amount with a "letter of credit" to insure that all contributions are collectable in their entirety. The City will not act as a collection agency. The CFGG will convey the money to the City.

Ed Catalano Nancy, will the CFGG also cover any cost overruns? And the letter of credit is from a bank on the behalf of the CFGG? I think that was your idea, the letter of credit I mean.

Nancy Barakat Vaughan Billy, the City (and every other City) regularly receives grants from a variety of foundations. They've been used in housing, parks and recreation and even transportation. As a matter of fact there is a new foundation that was formed the called Police Foundation to outfit the GPD with body cameras.

Nancy Barakat Vaughan The project did not trigger a traffic study. The number of cars getting in and out of downtown before and after a Grasshoppers game exceeds the number of cars that GPAC will generate. Traffic has not been an issue. The number of cars getting in and out of downtown during "rush hour" dwarfs the number of cars that GPAC will generate.

George Hartzman It is my understanding that there has been no assessment of the underground infrastructure needs or cost estimates to handle what could be some intermittent yet sizable liquid refuse disposal possibilities in downtown Greensboro. Should we know what the costs could be before we buy the properties? Why not let the Community Foundation buy the properties with the money they say they have?

Nancy Barakat Vaughan George, I find it difficult to respond to your "machine gun" fire barrage of questions - so I won't. I don't think you have the desire to actually hear the answer. I think you're more interested in throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Check out the City's FAQ page. If you want more information let's take it one at a time.
