Remember When Zack Matheny Said....

Remember when former Greensboro City Councilman Zack Matheny, now head of the taxpayer funded, "non profit" Downtown Greensboro Incorporated, remarked at a City Council meeting that he was unaware that businesses were not locating in Greensboro because of the City's unfriendly attitude towards businesses? You know, something about taxes and all?

Well it seems the Triad Business Journal now thinks Zack Matheny was lying through his teeth.

In an article titled Greensboro ranks among worst metros for private-sector jobs growth the Journal writes:

"The Greensboro metro has lost 5,700 private-sector jobs during the past 10 years, lagging behind the growth rates of many of the nation’s major markets, according to a federal report issued Wednesday."

And

"Greensboro is 65th in the national rankings. The local metro declined 1.8 percent from 325,000 private-sector jobs in July 2007 to 319,300 last month."

Well, you know, times have been hard, we've been through a recession. But haven't Raleigh and Charlotte seen the recession as well"

"This 10-year comparison is an effective indicator of the extent to which any given market has bounced back from the Great Recession, which officially extended from December 2007 to June 2009.

Each of the top five metros, including Raleigh, logged 10-year growth rates that exceed 21 percent. The five major markets at the bottom of the list — including Greensboro — are the only areas that now have fewer private-sector jobs now than a decade ago.

Charlotte ranked 16th with 14.8 percent growth."

Raleigh and Charlotte see double digit gains while Greensboro sees losses. This, my friends, is the result of years of bad leadership and crony capitalism on the part of the current Greensboro City Council. Seems Mr Matheny, like the rest of his Council Cronies, has been "unaware" of a lot of things.
