Esse Quam Videri

I admit, I had to google, "Esse quam videri" to know that it meant "To be, rather than to seem (to be)" when Roch used the phrase in a thread at EdCone.com. Back in the day, Latin wasn't taught in my East Greensboro high school.

But the point has been made: Disappearing press releases are not good for public perception. Neither is hiring the Mayor's campaign manager to oversee the $72 Million Dollar taxpayer funded project.

I think we know know why the press release disappeared. That is, if things are as they seem.

Why do businesses chose West Greensboro over East Greensboro? Is it because of what East Greensboro is or what it seems to be? They're closing our health clinics-- what's next, the new public library with the empty book shelves?

"Goldie Wells, a neighborhood activist who has worked to recruit another store for the shopping center , said locating stores in west Greensboro is a form of invisible racism that makes just about everything a struggle. Residents without a car can either pay much more for food at a convenience store or spend money and time to take a bus or taxi to another part of town to shop ."

And so to is refusing to consider East Greensboro as a potential site for the Randall Jarrell Performing Arts Center, aka, The East Greensboro Performing Arts Center.

George asks, "Isn't the taskforce supposed to objectively tell if it's feasable?" And I'm asking if it's objectively feasible downtown then cant it also be objectively feasible inside the green circle?

It's time Greensboro leaders proved themselves leaders, Esse quam videri by investing in East Greensboro to create a new downtown like the one they used your tax dollars to destroy in the 1960s.
