I've been looking over the new disclosure forms submitted by the members of the Greensboro City Council. Sadly, they were given to me in print and the copies are very dark so they're not going to transfer to the Internet in any way so that you can read them but maybe if enough people start requesting copies the city will get them posted online for everyone to see.
I decided to start with Nancy Hoffmann because she was one of 2 council members I previously caught failing to disclose the information required by the much shorter, previous disclosure form.
Councilwoman Hoffmann lists her current employer as "Self-employed" her job title as "Managing Director" and states that the nature of her business is "Executive Recruiting/Consulting."
Her disclosure form only includes 2 businesses she claims to own.
1. Enfield LLC formed June 1, 2012 is listed as being "UNDER REVIEW LLC OTHER EVENT" which according to the NC Secretary of State website means: "The entity has been identified by the system as possibly being delinquent on fiing annual reports."
That's probably just an error as a "Notice Annual Report" was mailed to Enfield LLC in November 2013 and the late filing was filed in December. All the filings were prepared by Desmond G Sheridan. As to who dropped the ball, you'll have to discuss that with Nancy and Desmond.
2. South End Partners LLC formed April 12th 2013 While the name of the business clearly implies Councilwoman Hoffmann has partners, she is listed as the sole proprioter of the business in the filings also prepared by Desmond G Sheridan. Is Councilwoman Hoffmann planning to screw her partners out of the business? Maybe she is hoping to attract partners? Yeah, that must be it.
Both are said to be located at 57 Folkestone Drive, Greensboro, NC 27403.
I thought it strange that Ms Hoffmann lists the nature of her business as "Executive Recruiting/Consulting" when in-fact, Enfield LLC is a real estate business located at 304 S. Elm Street and South End Partners LLC is a real estate business with adjoining properties located at 109 W Lewis St and 532 S Elm St.
So I popped over to Nancy's Facebook page and found that she lists herself as managing director of Reffett Associates from 1988 until the present. Interestingly enough, there is no listing for Reffett Associates at the NC Secretary of State website. Hum, must be out of state. But out of state companies who maintain operations in North Carolina are required by law to register with the NC Secretary of State as a foreign corporation-- what gives? Is Nancy working for an unregistered Executive Recruiting/Consulting firm? Is Councilman Hoffman, as she claims, self employed and operating an unregistered Executive Recruiting/Consulting company? I decided to search for Reffett Associates.
Reffett Associates claims to be a leader in executive search with offices in Seattle, Washington, Washington, DC and Reston, Virginia. Perhaps Ms Hoffman commutes back and forth between Greensboro and DC and/or Reston. Perhaps she can somehow do her job as managing director from her home with only the occasional trip to the office. Lots of people work that way now days. And that wouldn't require the company to be registered with the state of North Carolina.
Okay, I can live with that but if that's the case then why didn't Councilwoman Hoffman list Reffett Associates on her City Council Disclosure Form? Oh wait, I know! Dumb ol' me, Nancy probably doesn't work there any more and just forgot to change her Facebook page.
So why did she list her business description as "Executive Recruiting/Consulting" when both of the businesses she listed are real estate businesses? And if she is self employed does that mean she owns Reffett Associates as well? If that's the case then why didn't she disclose it?
