"First there was a teen curfew, then a rooftop tent ordinance, then a 45 decibel noise ordinance that Robbie snuck onto an agenda for Roy Carroll, and now a nightclub ordinance.
This is Roy Carroll, who garnered a wonderful write up by none other than Allen Johnson a few weeks ago that didn't mention all the taxpayer money Roy has received, or the political manipulations of our local government by a businessman who clearly made a mistake by turning Center Point in to condos instead of apartments. There was no mention of the conflicts with Robbie Perkins, no mention of the incentive money received from taxpayers, no mention of building apartments in the noise cone of the airport, no mention of Roy's campaign contributions, some of which ends up in the N&R pockets, not to mention the commercial ad dollars roy spends with them, no mention of the mayor living in his building, no mentioning of the mayor as one of Roy's biggest listing agents, no mention of how much roy profited from taxpayer funded water and sewer for AMEX, which gave him water and sewer for birch creek, no mention of when Robbie represented Roy before a zoning commission with Zack Matheny right before Roy cut Zack a $1,000 campaign check, no mention of how Robbie, Roy and TREBIC gutted the city's rental inspection law, with what looks like illegally tax deducted money contributed to TREBIC, which illegally lobbied government with pretax dollars
Now Roy wants to have the rest of downtown bend to his view of what downtown should be like. ie.. fewer black people, especially at night when some white folks think most black people look more like criminals.
Then, Allen Johnson does a puff piece on Ed Wolverton and DGI in a Sunday edition, while simultaneously ridding the paper of Eric Robert's piece critical of
DGI and then denies knowing anything about it until asked.
The City's Entertainment Facility Use Ordinance Review Committee now has very little credibility due to the propaganda and lies of omissions presented by some city council members, Roy Carroll's minions and the Greensboro News & Record.
The paper of record has been compromised.
Some on city council are paid for pawns of Greensboro's elite.
Allen Johnson has clearly misled his readers.
Shame on the Greensboro Partnership, whose Board of Directors includes Robin Saul, publisher of the Greensboro News & Record.
Mr. Johnson and Saul are clearly part of the problem.
They have clearly used the paper of record to maintain the political and economic power of a select few.
This is who shamelessly promoted the GPAC.
This is who deleted the paper's history twice inside of a decade.
This is who has forfeited the trust of their readers.
Allen Johnson lied, and the chances of the Rhino or Yes Weekly reporting it are pretty close to 0.
Greensboro cannot emerge from this cronyism without fixing this.
Why would businesses looking to open up in Greensboro want to work in an environment without a level playing field?
We are losing jobs because of this.
We are losing economic growth because of this.
City Council has no moral authority to regulate downtown nightclubs with this stain in place."
