You Can't Have Change Without Trust

The title from this post was lifted from Allen Johnson's News & Record blog post, A road to anger in which he writes about the mistrust between East Greensboro and Mayor Robbie Perkins.

The Mayor's plans to build a road across the A&T University Farm are not going over very well with residents of East Greensboro. Why? Well, for starters, residents of East Greensboro see no need for the road in the first place. $3 Million bucks is a lot of money to spend on a road that not anyone in the entire City of Greensboro sees a real need for. After all, if those of us who live here don't see a need for it how could it be of any value to the rest of Greensboro.

It's hard to trust people who want to spend money on things we see no need for. You can't help but ask, what's in it for them?

And while Allen Johnson tries to make a case for the Florida Street Extension by saying it is necessary for the new Hayes Taylor YMCA, Barber Park and more expansion for Gateway University Research Park, none of them require access from McConnell Road that couldn't be provided by widening 1 block of English Street. After all, I proved that North-South Connectivity is not a problem for East Greensboro. Show me any other area of Greensboro you can cross from North to South in 10 minutes on city streets. It can't be done. East Greensboro has the least traffic concerns of the entire city-- always has.

And when it comes to trust, while Allen Johnson was busy writing off conspiracy theories it's hardly a wonder they keep rearing their ugly heads when high ranking city officials seem to go out of their way to perpetuate them. All Butch Simmons had to do was to offer to show me a map but no, he and his office had to give me the run-a-round.

You know what else you can't have? If you're the City of Greensboro you can't have trust without change. .
