An article in Southern Living Magazine says Downtown Greensboro is worth the trip then recommends visitors stay in the suburbs. In the comments, a Downtown resident named Lauren explains why:
"I live in downtown Greensboro and it is unfortunate that it is not growing the way it should. Owners put signs up announcing a new restaurant/bar that is opening up, only to paint over it months later announcing another new restaurant/bar concept that will never eventually open. No effort has been made to truly make downtown great; the focus on growth is in other areas; Battleground, Lawndale, New Garden. Downtown ownership is a near monopoly and classier restaurants are being replaced in favor of sports bars with mediocre food and even worse atmosphere. There is a sign by my house stating "the excitement is growing!" announcing a site in Southside on Lee-Eugene for shops, restaurants, bars. The sign has been up for 3.5 years. Nothing else; no groundbreaking, no nothing. I truly want to see downtown grow; its quite pathetic compared to downtown in other cities of similar size. But seems the effort is futile. Btw, Proximity isnt in downtown"
Where was Downtown Greensboro Incorporated on this one? Certainly not promoting.
