I read today where Downtown Greensboro Incorporated awarded a $25,000 Grant to the Downtown Greensboro Animal Hospital but the property actually belongs not to the animal hospital but to the GAINES CORP, PO BOX 130548, HOUSTON, TX 77219. That's right, while DGI is helping a local business get a leg up the taxpayers of Greensboro who fund DGI are in-fact paying corporate welfare so that the GAINES CORP doesn't have to repair a building they own.
A web search for the Gaines Corp turned up multiple businesses at that same post office box.
So who are we really helping when we subsidize local business owners by giving them money to repair buildings our local business operators will never own? Yes, we're helping local business to some degree but mostly we're helping the fat cats who created the economic mess we're all living in today while they hide in the shadows tucked away in layers of corporations we'll never see.
