Philharmonia of Greensboro to perform on Saturday, April 13

GREENSBORO, NC -- (April 2, 2013) -- The Philharmonia of Greensboro will present its final Opus concert of the season on Saturday, April 13, 7:30 pm, at Dana Auditorium on the Guilford College campus, 5800 West Friendly Ave. Under the direction of Peter Perret, the concert will feature violin soloist Matthew Davidson, performing the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major. The program will also include: Symphony No. 7 in A major by Beethoven; Overture to Candide by Bernstein; and Firebird Suite by Stravinsky. Admission is free with donations gratefully accepted. Restricted Traffic and Road Closures for Seven Campus Scramble



GREENSBORO, NC (April 2, 2013) – Portions of roads in downtown Greensboro will be closed Saturday, April 13th to provide a safe environment for the Biscuitville Bowl Seven Campus Scramble.

            Complete and partial road closures will be in effect from 8 a.m. until approximately noon. Affected roadways are:

·        Davie Street closed between Market Street and Bellemeade Avenue

·        Partial closure of the northbound lane of Summit Avenue between Lindsay Street and Bellemeade Avenue

·        Eastbound lane of Lindsay Street between Summit Avenue and Church Street closed

·        The outside lane of southbound Church Street closed between Lindsay Street and Friendly Avenue

·        Friendly Avenue closed between Church Street and Elm Street

Greensboro police will be posted at key intersections to provide for an orderly flow of traffic, and protect the safety, health, and well being of event participants.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes while the race is on-going.


Youth Kayak Skills Verification clinics to be held May 2 and June 29

GREENSBORO, NC -- (April 2, 2013) -- Youth Kayak Skills Verification clinics will be held on May 2 and June 29 from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Lake Brandt Marina, 5945 Lake Brandt Rd. This clinic is required for children, ages 9-12, to verify existing kayaking skills and determine if they can safely operate a solo kayak, adjacent to their parent’s (or guardian’s) boat on a city lake. The children will not be allowed to operate their own kayak without this verification. The fee is $10 per child. Greensboro Fire Department, Spartan Village Apartment Fire investigation

 GREENSBORO, NC (April 2, 2013) – The City of Greensboro Fire Department has completed the physical investigation of the March 14th fire at the Spartan Village apartment complex. The fire has been ruled as accidental, but a final determination of the cause is dependent upon the forensic analysis various pieces of evidence. The analysis, which could take up to three weeks to complete, is being conducted by an independent third party laboratory. Further information will be released immediately upon completion of the forensic analysis.
