Brigitte Blanton Named Library Director
GREENSBORO, NC (April 23, 2013) – Brigitte Blanton has been named the library director for the City of Greensboro. Blanton, a longtime assistant library director, has served as interim director since March 2012.
Blanton, who has worked for the Greensboro Public Library since 1988, leads the multi-branch system and the historical museum, and oversees the department’s $8 million-plus annual budget. “There’s no better person to officially take over the leadership role of our library system than Brigitte,” says City Manager Denise Turner Roth. “We often talk about having succession plans in place to ensure that our departments and programs are transitioned into the right hands when leadership changes. Brigitte knows where we have been and she’s fully prepared to lead us where we want to go in the future.”
Starting her library tenure as an associate, Blanton has also served as a branch manager and project manager. She became assistant director in 1999 and moved to senior assistant in 2006. She was named interim library director after Sandy Neerman was promoted to assistant city manager.
Blanton holds an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a graduate degree in library and information studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
