That was the comment made by Kristie Coble on today's News & Record article, Megasite an emotional issue as Richard M. "Dick" Barron and the News & Record continue to leave out the facts concerning the building of megasites.
Facts like all of the 18 empty megasites in North Carolina including one located less than 30 miles southwest of the proposed Rockingham County Megasite were all promoted in local newspapers with a statement very much like Mr Tricky Dick Barron writes:
" Economic developers in Randolph County and the region hope to develop 2,000 rural acres in Liberty for a “megasite” — with roads, utilities and zoning ready for any automaker that might want to build here.
Such a company could hire 2,000 and attract an estimated 6,000 more jobs from suppliers. "
You see, today's business reporters are really no more than shills for the local "movers and shakers."
Mr Barron also leaves out the fact that nationwide there are 180 empty megasites who all are " with roads, utilities and zoning ready for any automaker that might want to build..."
He also leaves out the fact that those are only the sites that are certified as megasites by the one company in the United States that is allowed to certify a site as a megasite. Others exist but never paid for their certifications, thus were never certified.
Furthermore, he leaves out the fact that automakers are not required to locate new plants on megasaites and that a really wise automaker would avoid doing so in order to avoid paying the many middle men developers their outrageous profits. As a matter of fact: while VW and Honda have located plants in megasites in recent years, the vast majority of automobile manufacturing plants were not built in megasites as automakers prefer to keep their land acquisitions secret until the deals are done so that costs can be kept as low as possible.
That's right, 180 empty megasites in the USA and only 2 megasites with automakers. What are the odds that we'll ever land an automaker? We could become a small automaker for less money. As a matter of fact: there's a small locally owned automaker cropping up in Winston-Salem right now.
And seriously, do you think for an instant that if a major automaker bought a large piece of property anywhere in the Triad and asked the City of Greensboro or the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority to provide water that anyone would say, no. Megasite or no megasite, the bonds are coming due on the Dam Scam, and Greensboro is desperate to sell water just as Greensboro's bankrupted Mayor is desperate for commercial real estate commissions.
But it's like Kristie Coble wrote, "It's easy to say you're willing to sell if you do not have the TRUTH or all the facts."
The world needs more Kristie Cobles and fewer Tricky Dick Barrons willing to say whatever their bosses want them to say.
