If Greensboro's Leaders Were Really Interested In Economic Development 34

On last night's Greensboro City Council Agenda there was a proposal to consider a new program that will offer up to $1 million in loans to developers to grade industrial property to make it ready for development. Of course what the proposal didn't mention was that those properties are NOT in Greensboro.

Why not REQUIRE those properties be currently located inside the corporate city limits of Greensboro for at least 5 years BEFORE the loan application is submitted in order to control sprawl, push infill development and stop the current wave of local corporate welfare that is currently going on in Greensboro? You know, the things Robbie Perkins said were needed to maintain sustainable growth back when he was still a candidate for mayor.

Secondly, as an added incentive to those developers: if those properties are located in disadvantaged areas of the city then offer the developers a lower interest rate than would be offered in more prosperous areas where they are more likely to want to do business.

Otherwise, tell them to go to hell. After all, if they don't care about us they why should we give a damn about them?
