This morning, while the blog was autoposting what I wrote last night, I was in the lobby at one of Greensboro's Eagle Physicians while my mother was being seen by the doctor and having some tests done. Doctor's visits are a regular thing with her, due mostly to her age and in this instance, what appears to be a bad reaction to the new drug prescribed when I last took her to the doctor a couple of weeks ago. And if Momma goes there or anywhere else I drive her there.
I noticed while waiting that most everyone who comes in, places their hands on the counter where they check in. Like every doctor's office and medical center I've seen in recent years, Eagle Physicians keeps plenty of hand sanitizer on the counter for patients, staff and caregivers to use as needed.
A few people actually used the hand sanitizer. Then after they finished, each and every one who had used the hand sanitizer previously, placed their hands on the same counter everyone else had placed their unsanitized hands on. Defeating the purpose of using the hand sanitizer in the first place. It would be comical if not for the outcome.
And so it is with our local leaders as well. Elected and unelected, each time they feign ignorance, obfuscate, lie, fail to act or otherwise try to wash their hands of it they end up leaving with more new germs than with which they came. And like the people in the doctor's office this morning, it would be comical if not for the outcome.
