What, Billy Jones Was Right? Again?

I've been saying for years that the efforts of regional and city "leaders" to turn Greensboro into a transportation hub would come to nothing. Why just day before yesterday in my article, How To Bring Manufacturing Back And Turn Around Greensboro's Economy I wrote,

"They talk about transportation hubs... for what? Empty trailers?"

Now we learn:

"...a new study out of Oxford University (article, study) shows that, even if good airport capacity and a confluence of highways distinguishes a city enough to give it a competitive advantage in logistics, it may not bring jobs with it; or, the jobs it brings may be outpaced by technology in short order..."

And the straw that breaks Robbie Perkins' back:
"The study, based on 702 detailed job listings, found that computers could already replace many workers in transportation and logistics, production labor and administrative support."

Now the question becomes, where has Nancy Baracat Vaughan stood on the development of the Greensboro "aerotropolis?"  The answer: From the July 20th, 2004 minutes of the meeting of the Greensboro City Council:

"Mayor Holliday stated that Nancy Vaughan, Member of the Piedmont Triad International Airport Authority, serving as secretary, would provide an update on activities and plans at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. After Ms. Vaughan introduced Ted Johnson, Director of the Airport Authority, she provided a detailed report on past and present activities, current expansion efforts pertaining to the planned FedEx hub and recent commercial developments at the airport."

In other words, Nancy Baracat Vaughn filed the flight plan that brought us to this crash landing in the first place. From the Business Journal:

"Newly appointed members Dr. Earl Barbour, a High Point chiropractor, and Nancy Vaughan, a former Greensboro City Council member, take their seats in May and promise, however slightly, to alter the character of the authority to fit their priorities.

Both say they don't oppose the planned $300 million Federal Express air cargo hub; in fact, Vaughan was among the first elected officials back in 1998 to publicly support the controversial project."

$300 million Dollars wasted all because Robbie Perkins pulled Nancy's strings in the 1990s just as he does in 2013. Nancy Baracat Vaughan has been working with Greensboro's elite developers and screwing the working class since 1998. It's time she and Robbie were sent packing for good.
