After I spoke, the Greensboro City Council voted 9-0 to pass Mayor Vaughan's disclosure rules without adding any language asking the State House and Senate to strengthen disclosure laws at the local level. In every town and city in North Carolina, local governments remain powerless to prevent corruption at the local level-- is this by design? The vote of the Greensboro City Council would make it appear so.
Considering everything that has happened since then, the shady way in which the Greensboro Performing Arts Center was passed, the International Civil Rights Center and Museum and the illegal $1.975 Million Dollar Wyndham Hotel incentive grant... Now I think we know why.
