Jim "Bobblehead" Melvin is said to be pushing to place Jason Canon, who currently heads up DGI, into the seat being vacated by Dan Lynch who is soon to be out to lunch for the last time. Meanwhile, Councilman Zack Matheny has accepted the fact that he is never going to get through the primary much less make it all the way to Washington to fill Howard Coble's shoes and is also begging for the job saying, "Hey, the News & Record named me, Mr Economic Development, remember?"
Word has it that Zack, like many solo business operators, has not been paying in to the North Carolina Employment Security Commission and will not be eligible to draw unemployment benefits. At least with a wife and 3 kids he should be able to get a Guilford County Orange Card for Health benefits and around $400 a month in food stamps. That is, if the wife doesn't dump him.
