"If Mike Barber votes to fund the Gillespie Golf Course, which Mr. Barber personally profits from, via voting to fund the Parks and Recreation Department in the City of Greensboro's budget, he will have violated his fiduciary duties to city taxpayers, and will have engaged in a vote in which he should have asked to recuse himself for having a conflict of interest.
If Mike Barber's fellow city councilpersons allow Barber to vote to fund the Gillespie Golf Course via the City of Greensboro's budget, they will have violated their fiduciary duties to city taxpayers by not questioning Barber's conflict of interest.
If City Staff doesn't bring up Mike Barber's conflict of interest concerning Gillespie Golf Course before the budget vote, they will have violated their fiduciary duties to city taxpayers.
If our local news industry doesn't report Mike Barber's conflict of interest concerning Gillespie Golf Course if he votes to fund an entity Barber personally profits from, they will have failed to do their jobs."
In case you don't understand, Councilman Barber is the president and CEO of First Tee of the Triad which uses the City of Greensboro's Gillespie Golf Course at no cost to First Tee for which Mr Barber is paid in excess of $80 Thousand Dollars per year. How anyone can not view this as a personal conflict of interest on the part of Councilman Barber is simply beyond me.
