Greensboro's City Council and City staff have to jump through a series of hoops aimed at selecting the candidates best suited to serve the interests of our community's oligarchs. I am sick of naming them over and over again, as it's the same people, over and over again who are not held to account by our shitty press who I don't think are even worth mentioning at the moment. They know who they are and are reading EZGreensboro along with another couple of thousand or so locals per day.
Anyone who opposes handing out goodies to campaign contributors need not apply for a seat on our esteemed dais of City Council sell outs.
The carefully crafted spectacle of a local off year election with nail-biting primaries and boring 'forums' is a fool-proof exercise in how to persuade a gullible citizenry into believing that their votes matter, by reporters, editors and publishers who don't really care anymore, as they are so soiled with the sins of non-transparent, misleading prose, they have declared their roles as obedient slaves of the status quo.
“We the people” don't select the City's elected leaders. You know who does, and it's not a couple thousand who show up to vote, but the press and the money which backs the campaigns of the chosen few.
What decides elections are money and power. We’ve been hoodwinked into believing that our votes count, that we live in a democracy, that elections make a difference and that our elected officials are looking out for our best interests. Truth be told, we live in an oligarchy, and politicians represent only the profit motives of the those at the top who fund the pols, because there is only one color that matters in Greensboro, and it is green.
One big, brawling, noisy, semi-incestuous clan. Watch them interact at social events—hugging and kissing and nudging and joking and hobnobbing with each other—and it quickly becomes clear that they are not sworn enemies but partners in crime, united in a common goal, which is to maintain the status quo.
The powers-that-be will not allow anyone to run downtown Greensboro who does not answer to them.
The candidate who wins Greensboro's mayoral race will be the one who can do the best job of ensuring that the powers-that-be keep raking in the money and acquiring ever greater powers. In other words, for any viable candidate to get elected to City Council must be willing to lie, cheat, steal, be bought and sold and made to dance to the tune of his or her overlords.
City Council and our local press enrich themselves by betraying Greensboro's population by serving only in the bests interests of its 1%. We are being driven into the ground for the sake of more for a handful of rich people.
Greensboro exists as a conquered people. The government has unaccountable power. We live in a propaganda-fabricated world.
As City taxpayers pays DGI's bills, Zack is compliant. Greensboro's print and TV media are so corrupt that many reports end up as false stories via lies of omission.
We need to acknowledge that positive change may not be produced by elections or peaceful means.
With a sold out press, civil disobedience may be the only path forward.
