Short On Time

Proponents of a downtown performing arts center are meeting today for the first time to try and plan out a scheme to get Greensboro voters to approve a bond to be placed on the November ballot.

Eric Ginsburg of Yes Weekly writes,

"Residents have also said they feel the outcome of the task force, which aims to “create an open, candid and constructive dialogue around the needs of a performing arts center,” is a foregone conclusion because of who is leading the process.

The Community Foundation, which supports creating a new performing arts center, hired Mayor Robbie Perkins’ former campaign manager and marketing and advertising veteran Ross Harris to manage the task force. Harris said she knew when she took the position the question about a conflict of interest would arise. Perkins has expressed his strong support for a performing arts center, particularly one built downtown and managed by Greensboro Coliseum Director Matt Brown."

He's right, there is no open, candid and constructive dialogue going on because no one in Greensboro government is even studying the rest of the city.

For Mayor Perkins to simply say one neighborhood is a better location than another without extensive study is gross negligence on the part of the Mayor and City Council. And just so you know, gross negligence is a crime punishable by time in prison.

Yes, time is running out before the rest of Greensboro wakes up to the crimes that are being committed in the name of profits for downtown developers.
