"Billy - Thanks for promoting our notice about Tuesday's meeting. I want to be clear that the change of the time for when the item will be heard is not a manipulation to close out coop folks from speaking. In fact,it's because we asked for the item to be heard earlier in the evening.
When we got the Council agenda on Friday morning, I left a message with the mayor, asking him if it was possible to move the discussion of Bessemer Center nearer to the start of the meeting because we were expecting 50 to 100 people to come out in support of the coop, and we didn't want to make them wait till 9, 10, or 11 pm, which is when they would have gotten to it. Our thinking was that few people would still be in attendance at that late hour. So it was at least partly in response to our request that the item was moved up. It is to our advantage to do it early.
We are about to start sending lots of emails, tweets, and Facebook posts that the item is right after speakers from the floor, so folks need to be in the room between 5:30 and 6 pm.
Also, the timing was made very clear in the CEEJ meeting tonight by several people, including the mayor.

I screwed up. See you all Tuesday night. Begin original post:
Got the following e-mail forwarded to me while I was at the shop today. It seems Mayor Perkins is trying to kill Renaissance Community Cooperative and wants to make sure no one is in attendance at Tuesday night's City Council meeting when the subject of the Renaissance (Bessemer) Shopping Center comes before the council. Let's show the bastard how wrong he is:
"FYI...
In addition, In anticipation of numerous interested persons attending the Council meeting to hear item #31, The Renaissance (Bessemer) Shopping Center under the Supplemental Agenda, Mayor Perkins will move the item to the beginning of the meeting following the Public Comment period.

Good afternoon,
The following items will be added to the supplemental agenda for Tuesday. They each have a timing sensitivity which drives the need for including the items as an Addendum to the agenda. I will send them to you as well as the public distribution list on Monday:
· Calling a public hearing to consider an economic development item- Black Network Television. This is a request from Councilmember Kee as a follow-up to the meeting Council had at Ashtae on April 30.
· The process for complaints against the City Manager and the City Attorney. This item was previously planned to be on the agenda May 7 and was mistakenly omitted. This was an item CM Kee requested that was held over from April.
• Consideration for adding an item to the COG legislative agenda related to Dynacon Event Center. This request involves a facility on Wendover Ave that seeks to qualify for certain state economic benefits. However, state legislation will need to be sought to achieve this request.
In addition, In anticipation of numerous interested persons attending the Council meeting to hear item #31, The Renaissance (Bessemer) Shopping Center under the Supplemental Agenda, Mayor Perkins will move the item to the beginning of the meeting following the Public Comment period."
If I were to witness someone shooting the Mayor I'd never tell it. And I'm certain there are hundreds if not thousands of other Greensboro citizens just like me. Please be at the City Council meeting at 5:30 to express your discontent with Mayor Robbie Perkins' efforts to steal our grocery store away from the citizens of Greensboro.
