I noticed during my limited interactions with the GPAC crowd that everything they do involves alcohol. Public gatherings to garner support and the free drinks flow. The bus trip to Durham to visit the Durham Performing Arts Center was fueled with cases of wine and in yesterday's News & Record we read how Walker Sanders and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro tried to swindle former Greensboro City Councilwoman Sandra Anderson Groat out of a $50,000 donation.
"The letter asked the Groats to formalize their earlier commitment of $50,000.
Trouble is, the Groats never said they would donate any money to the center, said Sandra Anderson Groat, a former Greensboro city councilwoman."
From the same article:
"Councilwoman Marikay Abuzuaiter said she asked to see the list of donors and how much they have pledged.
“We were told that that was not possible at that time, but there was approximately $7 million,” Abuzuaiter said. “When we asked again, it was $18 million. When we asked again, there was ($13 million).”
And finally:
“I have had people say, ‘I think I may have said that at a cocktail party, but it’s not something I can do right now,’ ” Sanders said."
So now we have the whole of the Walker Sanders lead GPAC fund raising effort: Get 'em drunk then send 'em a letter claiming they pledged.
In case you folks in Greensboro's elite are unaware, Greensboro remains a Southern city and most Southerners still think it perfectly appropriate to run men like Walker Sanders and Robbie Perkins out of town tied to a rail. You can bet none of Greensboro's working class folks will lift a finger to stop you-- not even the finger we dial the phone with.
And while you've got him tied to the rail, why not ask Walker Sanders about his trip to Bermuda last year?
