Why Did The City Not Send Me Mike Barber's E-mails?

Almost a month ago when Mike Barber claimed to have gotten e-mails (Note e-mails, plural) from non profit managers complaining they did not want their salaries made public I submitted a public information request asking to be sent those e-mails. My request was never fulfilled. In the video below, Councilman Barber clearly says e-mails, plural.

In reality there was only one e-mail sent to Councilman Barber, that e-mail being from Greensboro staffer, interim assistant city manager Mary Vigue to Mike Barber and others on April 1st that alerted Mr Barber to what was to become the City of Greensboro's new policy on non profit disclosure. That's the link above, click it.

Later that night, at the Greensboro City Council meeting, Councilman Barber led the charge against non profit transparency. You can view it in the video below. Earlier today I was leaked the e-mail linked above which clearly demonstrates Mr Barber's leadership roll in the effort to squash non profit transparency.

I was also leaked some more information. Seems Mike Barber's e-mails for an entire month contained no e-mails from anyone asking that non profit salaries not be made public. That had previously been verified by an April 17th public information release from the City of Greensboro so now I have it from the City and from an informant. That's right, no one complained to Councilman Barber, he just felt the need to lie.

In truth, the 990s did not solve the problem as many non profits do not disclose individual salaries on Federal Form 990s. I know because I've been looking through lots of 990s and making them public.

Mike Barber went on to destroy public records... lied on his own Federal form 990 filings and failed to disclose that the very non profit he runs is subsidized by the City of Greensboro
