The first bit of rational thinking from the leadership of Greensboro comes not from anyone on the Greensboro City Council but from High Point Mayor, Becky Smothers who says, "Smothers told her fellow mayors that the situations made officials “look like nuts.”
Of course, what the N&R article I linked to leaves out is what I believe to be the real reason Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins is willing to outbid High Point and Winston-Salem at any cost, that being that Mayor Perkins and his developer cronies stand to make millions if the project is built in Greensboro as they will most likely be the developers, contractors and realtors who get the contracts.
You see, incentivized construction is the only business model they know.
