The Mayor's Lips Are Moving

Last week, when I reported to the News & Record that Mayor Robbie Perkins was having financial difficulties the folks at the N&R gave the Mayor a call and published Greensboro mayor owes taxes, faces foreclosure, the Mayor had a few comments that went unchallenged by reporters but not missed by myself and commenters at the N&R:

Perkins: “This is a tough environment, and I am, like a lot of our citizens, a victim of a very tough economy,” he said, adding: “I’m not a victim. I’m saying it is what it is. It’s damn hard out there."

Rambo: "SO LET'S ALL FORGET ABOUT WHAT WE OWE AND BUILD AN ARTS CENTER"

I think we're all now beginning to see the urgency of the Greensboro Performing Arts Center was in the hopes that Perkins might use it to restore his finances at taxpayers' expenses.

Perkins: "It’s just unfortunate that the cash flows don’t match up with the tax obligation.”

brian444: "What? You don't rack up an $86k tax obligation by accident; you do it because you make over $400k a year. Blaming the poor economy is idiotic because the poor economy would hurt your income. Tax obligations do, in fact, match up with cash flows. Your income is what is taxed. You made the money; you should have paid taxes on it. Most people do. You spent the money on something else."

GSOMAN: "The housing/building industries fell to the bottom but it didn't happen overnight. There were many signs that an experienced land developer would have seen. Robbie Perkins has been playing a game of run with the money until you are caught! Where did he get the money to mount his campaign? He should immediately step away from city government or he should be impeached immediately. I suppose neither will happen but that too is a damn shame."

Then there are the things Robbie Perkins didn't tell the News & Record like:
the second IRS lien
Why The Mayor Was Fired From Newbridge Bank
and How Perkins came to own NEI Piedmont.

Yep, the Mayor's lips are moving and that means the Mayor is lying.
