Well it looks as if News & Record owner Robin Sauls has turned loose the paper dogs now that his excess property is no longer being considered as a possible site for the Downtown Greensboro Performing Arts Center. It's funny watching the elite eat their own kind. Yesterday, Allen Johnson writes on his blog:
"What I don’t quite get is why the private donors who have expressed interest in helping to fund the arts center won’t come forward."
Allen continues:
"That would lend more credibility to the project and help sell the idea to the council and citizens at large.
It would also encourage other donors, which the project needs since the city’s share of the funding may be much less than originally envisioned."
Was it all one big con game or a case of the most inept management of a public works project ever witnessed in Greensboro? Who cares, right? And at this point, why would anyone in his or her right mind want their good names attached to this fiasco? Better to start with a clean slate.
