$452 Million Dollars For What?

From today's News & Record:

"In a document summarizing the April 18 meeting, Caldwell said the state and county would need to offer $400 million in incentives to lure a plant that could employ 2,000 people and thousands more at nearby suppliers. Automakers require power, water, roads, rail and telecommunication services.

The team of economic developers estimated that would cost $52 million and take up to two years to develop before any company could even take a look."

That's right, Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins,  Greensboro developer Samet Corp and others are proposing we spend $452 Million Dollars on a Randolph County Megasite less than 10 miles from the privately owned Chatham/Randolph Megasite that DH Griffin is already constructing in the hopes that we might lure an auto plant to the area when in-fact there are already 18 empty megasites across North Carolina and 180 empty megasites across the United States making this the biggest real estate scam ever invented. Less than 25 miles from the existing empty Moore County Megasite!

Let me explain it to you again: if you go to the websites of all of the 180 empty megasites  across the United States they will all tell you they are an excellent site for an automobile manufacturer. Are we prepared to gamble $452 Million Dollars against 180 megasites that are already built and going down in value with each day they set empty?

If you want to attract manufacturers you don't do it by doing the same thing everyone else is failing to attract manufacturers with. You force them to come making it necessary for them to come here by manufacturing what they need most.

And yes, I know that's way over the heads of Greensboro's current crop of leaders and "non profit" grifters.
