Greensboro Mayoral Candidate George Hartzman railed for months that the most recent Guilford County Property Tax evaluation was skewed, the numbers were too high. And while admittedly, a lot of that accounting stuff is over my head it made no sense to me that at a time when every other city in America was seeing a drop in property tax values, Greensboro, North Carolina was seeing never before seen increases in property tax values even though properties weren't changing hands.
George went to all the local media outlets. I know that's true because I was among those he e-mailed and saw the e-mail addresses for all the reporters, editors and publishers of all of Greensboro's media outlets. They paid George no attention.
George found experts who agreed with his on findings and begged the media outlets to contact them (again, I was on the e-mail list) but if they ever did contact George's experts they never chose to publish stories about what George's experts had to say.
George left hundreds if not thousands of statistics on the comment threads at the News & Record to back up his argument. For the second time in less than 10 years the News & Record completely deleted their online archives including George's facts and figures.
George pointed out how Charlotte-Mecklenburg who used the same software as Guilford County had to go back and redo all their evaluations but the media didn't bother to pass that along either.
George Hartzman spoke to the software maker who made the software used by Guilford County and was told by the software maker that it was possible for the County to manipulate the results but did the media report that either?
Since Thursday, October 4, 2012, the second most popular post on this website has been, Guilford County Property Tax Accounting Software Glitches? the results of a public records request made by George Hartzman and shared with myself along with the following persons and more:

But to date none of those media outlets have done a story on what George Hartzman has found. Until today when the News & Record published Record number of Guilford property owners appeal tax values without ever mentioning George Hartzman, the man who made it all possible.
Remember that come November! After all, Robbie Perkins never tried to save you any money. Not one thin dime.
