What World Class Cities Do Differently

For years now I've heard the talk about making Greensboro a world class city and yet despite all the cheer-leading and all the development I've witnesses in 56 years of living here in Greensboro and Guilford County, Greensboro has never achieved the dream put forth by Greensboro's "movers and shakers" men like Jim "Bobblehead" Melvin and most recently, Mayor Robme Perkins. Has anybody ever wondered why?

Oh sure, they'll blame the "naysayers" and the "trolls" but every city has those. What makes Greensboro different?

Last night I dreamed that it was because Greensboro refuses to empower its working class so that we too can contribute to the cause and share in the dream.  This morning I opened my e-mail to find a message from my brother with a link to San Francisco treasurer describes how city empowers poor from the St. Louis Business Journal where they are also working to do the same thing.

Too bad Greensboro's leadership lacks vision and is more concerned with development than with empowering the working classes. If not we could have something like that happening here too. Then we could become a world class city with a growing economy instead of reporting stories about downtown "non profits" double billing and illegal grants.
