President Abraham Lincoln to Speak at Greensboro Historical Museum
Veteran actor Peter Holland will bring our nation’s 16th President to life during two free programs on Saturday, April 27 at 2 pm and 7 pm at the Greensboro Historical Museum. Holland, who has been portraying Lincoln for almost a decade, developed the show based on several years of research, primarily from Lincoln’s personal writings and those works of people who personally knew Lincoln.
Holland calls his family-friendly program, “Mr. Lincoln’s Office,” a phrase that Lincoln himself liked to use in reference to his own top hat. “I try to make every performance as Mr. Lincoln my best,” Holland says, adding, “I want to communicate to every member of the audience Abraham Lincoln’s passion for the promise of America.”
His portrayal of Lincoln is that of a man who loved a good story, and could find humor in anecdotes from his own past. In watching the performance though, the audience can sense that Lincoln felt overwhelmed by the events of his day, but that he remained determined to hold the Union together and win the war.
More information about Holland’s depiction of Lincoln can be found on the website of his touring theatre company at www.onceuponablueridge.com. The program at the Historical Museum, sponsored by Lincoln Financial Group, is free to the public, but reservations are requested, and may be made by calling 336-373-2982.
The Greensboro Historical Museum, a division of the City of Greensboro Public Library Department, is located at 130 Summit Avenue, in Downtown Greensboro’s Cultural District. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am until 5 pm and Sundays from 2 pm to 5 pm. Admission is free.
