There are 3 groups offering to buy the Bessemer Shopping Center on Phillips Avenue and bring a grocery store to my community. The first group is the Renaissance Community Co-op, a neighborhood community group made up of members of the immediate community and kind people from across Greensboro who support out cause.
The second group is New Bessemer Associates owned by slumlord developers George Carr and Vernon Powell.
The third group is Renaissance Center Llc. an obvious play on words designed to deceive the community into thinking it represented the co-op. This group was headed up by former Guilford County Commissioner, slumlord and owner of the International Civil Rights Museum, Skip Alston and out of state developers who were planning a monopoly shopping center there.
And the proof: the City of Greensboro had and still has no intention of ever considering the Renaissance Community Co-op's bid to buy the shopping center? The City only posted offers from 2 groups on the City of Greensboro's Renaissance Center webpage.
