For my partners and I today will be a memorial Memorial Day. Today, after a lot of years of dreaming and a few years of working, my partners and I took what is for us a big step in the economic development of the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. Today, without any fanfare or government subsidies I rode our first prototype American made moped on the streets of downtown Burlington, North Carolina.
How did it perform? Too well, I'm afraid. Before I realized it I found myself blasting through 20 MPH downtown speed limits at 45 plus. Here in North Carolina, Mopeds and Scooters are limited to 30MPH unless they are tagged and insured as motorcycles. Don't worry though, we can and will slow them down before they go on sale to the public.
Sorry, fast moped fans, it's the law. The State of North Carolina won't allow me to sell you a 55 MPH Moped or Scooter.
We had planned to ride it yesterday but simply worked until we could work no more and came back today.
In the coming months we hope to begin sales of a few pre production models in the hopes of raising capital and investor interest. We're fortunate in that unlike so many start-ups we own our own factory building and don't have to shell out large chunks of cash to developers. Not being in debt gives us options few ever have.
We own the website Wackemall.com and while there is something else on the website now I do have the other website ready for when Wackemall Mopeds, Scooters and Accessories finally go on sale a few months from now.
I dreamed of the day when I could post this. Now I dream of the day when we can start putting people to work doing something the area sorely needs. After all, wasn't American jobs, American products and freedom from foreign oil imports the sort of thing our veterans fought and died for?
