With every upcoming election we find local media articles telling us of the candidates who failed to vote the last time 'round. And you can just about always bet the names they mention will be among the challengers.
Maybe it's time we rethought this thing.
Is a previous voting record as a citizen really pertinent? Maybe he didn't like any of the choices. Do we reject a candidate who previously refused to vote for a candidate he or she didn't like?
Others may not get politically involved until politics slap them in their faces, perhaps making political victims out of them. That is especially common in younger candidates. Are we going to turn candidates away simply because they are young?
Believe it or not some employers still do not let workers leave work to go vote. Many people go to work before the polls open and work until after the polls close, perhaps working 2 jobs just to live hand to mouth. And to attempt to push the issue means sure fire unemployment for many workers. Will we object to people who work for a living from being allowed to someday run for office?
And being that voters' ballots are kept secret is voting any measure of how a candidate might enact legislation once elected to office? How could we possibly tell?
Fact is: the candidate who has never voted seems somehow less indoctrinated and indebted to the system than those shining examples we hold up every day. And the media articles at every election telling you of the challengers who failed to vote last time 'round? That's just another of the many ways our local media attempts to influence the outcome of our local elections making a fuss over a non issue while all the while ignoring the lies and corruption of the incumbent status quo.
Yes, I see the world differently... because it is.
