Maybe Publix Supermarkets didn't come to Greensboro because the Greensboro City Council hates co-ops? You see, Publix is a co-op, the "...largest and fastest-growing employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States."
Corporations, even corporations who happen to be co-ops, spend a lot of time and money researching the places where they intend to locate. They even read blogs. Did Publix find the Greensboro City Council to be too hostile towards co-ops, was it the moving target building codes, is our city uninspiring, ranked too low on too many scales or fear Greensboro really about to become the next Detroit.
What, you don't think Greensboro has money problems enough to break the flood gates? Try to get anyone in City Hall to discuss how the bonds are going to be repaid on the soon to be due Randalman Dam Scam. They've not sold even 1/10 of the water they predicted they would sell and they have no prospects as to who might buy it. Archdale, Greensboro, High Point, and Randleman, the town of Jamestown, and Randolph County are all about to be hit with bills none of them can pay. Even their website tells you nothing about the financial stability of the publicly financed project.
And the City of Greensboro showed the way.
