Friendly Coalition Opposes Latest Development Plan

That's the title of the latest article in today's News & Record about the "proposed" Trader Joe's grocery store-- the store Trader Joe's isn't talking about--developers are hinting they plan to build on the corner of Hobbs Road and Friendly Avenue. I don't really have a dog in that fight, me living in East Greensboro and all but I just thought I'd point out:

Too bad the Greensboro City Council including Nancy Baracat Vaughan, lobbied on behalf of TREBIC at Greensboro taxpayers' expense to the North Carolina State Legislature to successfully do away with the right to citizens protest petitions. You lost the best tool you ever had with which to fight it.

Oh, by the way, I have in my possession evidence that Greensboro developer Marty Kotis was in favor of citizens having the right to protest petitions. Marty's opinion is that when developers are willing to build what a neighborhood needs and desires the neighborhood will have no reason to fight the developer. Considering Marty's enormous successes, it's a lesson other developers should learn.
