Are City Council Members Recording Their E-mails?

On Monday, March 31, 2014 I posted The Transparency That Never Took Place in which I reveled a  2010 a blog post by Keith Brown that got the attention of a nationwide organization called The Sunlight Foundation for a newly created transparency policy instituted by then City Manager, Rashad Young, who asked that all City Council members forward e-mail pertaining to Greensboro City business to a special e-mail address so that city staff could more easily keep track of them.

My first impulse was to ask Sarah Healy of the City of Greensboro to search the entire history of that e-mail address for e-mails forwarded by city council members and send them to me. I even asked Sarah to do so.

I quickly learned that at least some in the public information department of the City of Greensboro were apparently not aware of the existence of said e-mail account.

Then realizing that others besides council members were also likely forwarding messages to that account and that Sarah would likely be facing a monumental task that might take months and because I wanted results sooner rather than later I refined my request to e-mails from March 19, 2010 through April 20, 2010 (1 e-mail forwarded by Robbie Perkins) and November 1, 2013 until December 31, 2013 (3 e-mails from the clerk's office.)

You can make what you want from this information. Fact is: it is not conclusive proof of anything but I'm going to e-mail Sarah and tell her she can close this public information request unless someone else contacts her on their own to reopen PIRT #3388.
