"Recall that our local chamber of commerce was co-opted by the local elites affiliated with the foundations, and merged with Action Greensboro and the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance to form the Greensboro Partnership. And the combined organization has been ground zero for liberal, big spending advocacy since then. Our local political culture always had sported a smug, prideful demeanor that suggested they had patented the formula to achieve local municipal success."
As a liberal I have repeatedly taken exception with Joe's usage of the word "liberal" in such context but that doesn't change the fact that we are 100% in agreement about what is going on here in Greensboro. As Joe likes to call them, the Melderec con Simkins alliance and their machine politics is starving East Greensboro to death and taxing West Greensboro into their graves while deliberately ignoring every suggestion that there might be another way.
One needs to remember the Melderec con Simkins alliance is made up of big money, pro big business developers and the primarily African-American Simkins PAC who, rather than work to further the causes of George C Simpkins, now use the power of the PAC to add to their personal wealth. What they do in the name of George C Simkins is a travesty.
And I'm far from the only Greensboro liberal who has found himself or herself agreeing with Joe on matters of local economic development and the Simkins PAC-- it's just that many aren't yet ready to admit it publicly. And yes, Joe and I can still find many other things on which to disagree, a quick look at his blog, Triad Conservative will find many.
But we all agree, death to the machine!
