Just over a month ago I quietly reported the operation of 3 illegal landfills that were being operated in or near the Greensboro City limits to Greensboro City Manager Jim Westmoreland. I didn't blog it at the time. I'm happy to announce that one of the 3 has been cleaned up and the other 2 are now under investigation by the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
Two of the illegal landfills were being operated by the notorious Rocky Scarfone associate, Francsis "Frank" Lato, aka, Mr Dirt, who tricks property owners into selling the soil off their properties for construction projects then fills the holes with things that aren't supposed to be there.
Thanks to Greensboro Field Operations Manager Dale Wyrick, Deputy Director Chris Marriott, Greensboro City Manager Jim Westmoreland and NCDENR's Hugh Jerrigan, these problems are being resolved and Dirt Man Frank Lato is being dealt with.
Oh, and thanks to those who sent me the tips and made our city a better place to live. It's nice to have a happy ending once in a while.
