Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan lead the effort to place Zack Matheny in
charge of Downtown Greensboro Incorporated. She even increased funding
to DGI. But did Nancy Vaughan help or hurt business in downtown
Greensboro? Here's what Joe Scott, founder of Geeksboro, has to say about the downtown Greensboro business environment. Click on the photo to enlarge.
Folks, I've been here almost 62 years. I've watched Greensboro's developers rape downtown before while using taxpayer dollars to do it, only to come back in a few years and do it again. Wendover Ave was built to take business away from downtown and to Friendly Shopping Center. From my East Greensboro home I can more quickly and more easily access Friendly Center than Downtown. Many of Greensboro's developers are second, third and forth generation, accomplished and trained at living large off the efforts of true entrepreneurs and blue collar workers.
Those tax credits could be used to put factories employing thousands into places like Revolution Mill but instead they chose to pit Revolution Mill against downtown. They want to keep the rental cycle going forever.
To get a business friendly Greensboro we must stop subsidizing the rich and level the playing field. That's why you must vote out the incumbents and write-in Billy Jones for Mayor and Thessa Pickett for District 2.
