Some of you got here via search engines like Bing or Google. Others
found a link on a blog somewhere. A few came from a Tiny URL in the
Greensboro News & Record, others were e-mailed a link from a friend.
Some of you met me on the street, others found a card in your door. But
no matter how you got here you are welcome.
Update: 15 April, 2012. I've now written 100 articles plus
survey results concerning Greensboro's performing arts center and now
leave it in your hands. Begin original post:
This blog is about forcing Mayor Perkins and the Greensboro City Council
to become vested in East Greensboro by investing in East Greensboro.
Only when they've got something to lose will they care about communities
other than downtown Greensboro and the other more affluent
neighborhoods of Greensboro.
The plan? The plan is to steal the $72 Million Dollar proposed downtown
Greensboro performing arts center-- their most prized gem-- and place it
in the center of the little green circle where the Winn Dixie used to be on Phillips Avenue.
Why? Simple really. Northeast Greensboro has been dumped on, lied to and stolen from
by the Greensboro City Council and downtown developers for over 50
years. By the downtown's own admission, downtown Greensboro is thriving
but our community is dying a slow and painful death.
I believe that by forcing city leaders to invest in my neighborhood
over downtown Greensboro, we can set a precedent that makes our leaders
understand that our neighborhoods-- all of Greensboro's neighborhoods--
with our tens of thousands of blocks containing 99% of Greensboro's
270,000 residents, are just as important as their 99 tiny blocks
downtown.
I know that most who read these words won't read any farther than you're
read thus far but for the few of you who want to know more I've set up a
Table of Contents and linked all the articles together beginning with article #1 Why Not East Greensboro?
For those who would like to do more than just read I have set up a Donation Page and a page with instructions on how you may Volunteer to make Greensboro invest in all of Greensboro.
Thank you -Billy Jones, an East Greensboro resident of the little green circle
