Another County Tax Property Tax Fraud?

Letters to the editor at the News & Record are indicating that perhaps the Guilford County Tax Department has discovered a means to defraud taxpayers that will usually go unnoticed and can be done every year unlike regular property tax reevaluations that come 'round every decade or so.

At least 2 LTEs have indicated that the tax values on their personal automobiles had risen since last year, the latest being LTE writer, Richard Becker .

According to Mr Becker,

". I was told that the county uses an outfit called Tech Data for its valuations. I, like Mr. Bryant, am curious as to why NADA, Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book are not used, since they are the recognized automotive experts. I was also told that there was no public copy of the Tech Data information that I could use to independently verify my car’s valuation.

Methinks there is something fishy going on here, and I would like to hear from anyone else who has found problems with their valuations. My phone number is listed in the book. I also repeat Mr. Bryant’s urging to check your county auto tax bill."

Let me see here, a valuation guide no one has ever heard of and is unacceptable to the public, used cars that go up in value as they get older and higher in mileage, no way to check behind county tax assessors, the ability to steal small amounts that would normally go unnoticed... Could it be that Greensboro Mayoral candidate George Hartzman is on to something after all?
